Planned desecration of the Eucharist

I’m really concerned about yet another planned desecration of the Eucharist. Following is what I sent to the Catholic League; do you have any suggestions of additional steps I could take to try to stop it?

Internet talk show host Keith Malley plans to stage a mock Mass and desecrate consecrated hosts on a Carnival Cruise ship. Please ask Carnival to stop this from happening. The ship is Carnival Imagination from Miami to Cozumel sailing 8/7/08-08/11/08. Mr. Malley and some of his fans are sailing as a group “Keith and the Girl Show”, and this mock Mass may be one the group activities in their itinerary.
I have audio files from last month wherein he describes his plans.
 
From what you are deswcribing, if you have audio files showing these plans are authentic, you could contact FOX News, in particular contact Bill O’Rielly, as he has always defended Catholics when these types of planned blasphemines are being promoted by different celebrities, rap stars etc. He maybe able to put something on his show to put pressure on the cruize ship to not allow that type of show to be allowed. I know if you go to the FOX website you can e-mail news items as well as e-mail the O’Reilly show and write about your concern. That is what I would do.

It is awful, because the same people would never allow other groups to be treated with such disrespect, but Catholics are a free target these days.

Lord Help us! Why did I know that this Professor would start a firestorm…if he planned this LAST MONTH you can’t tell me it was because of the attention Myers was getting. Where did you see this? This might be preventable but? And where are people getting consecrated hosts? The only way I can see is to go to Mass, receive the Eucharist, and either pretend to consume it or just walk out of Church with it.?
 
What Myers did was in response to an earlier incident where a college student took a host from Mass. The reaction to that is also what prompted Mr. Malley.

I don’t know how they got the host or hosts they claim to possess. Malley and a few others had stated the intent to go to Mass and “palm” the hosts. He also had a listener who claimed to be a non-Catholic employee of a Catholic church who could get his hands on consecrated hosts.
 
Yeah, Lura, I know all about what the catalyst was to this whole thing. Have been watching it closely. I keep saying that Parishes need to be extra vigilant on this… in all respects. I have to digest this…I am going back and forth on the publicity thing…you know the quandry…too much attention vs. appearing apathetic.:confused: I will keep posted.
 
teelynn – i found the site!! thanks. i cannot imagine that carnival cruise line would allow such a thing to take place. i am sure they have many customers who are Catholic who travel.
 
That was kind of my thought as well…I am going to kind of watch this one and see if anyone has any more (name removed by moderator)ut. I knew that the Myers desecration was not the end of this. And he threatened this a month ago, the Florida U. incident was also the catalyst for this guy. (if you read what LuraV says)
The Catholic League has been emailed so I trust they will check it out. I will definitely keep a very close watch on this.😦 I would think they wouldn’t be able to pull this one off but??? Not sure what to think about this one yet.
 
well, if bill donohue gets wind of this i would think he would raise a lot of noise as only bill donohue can - especially after what has happened. you are right, once it gets started and others see the publicity they can make off of doing an act like this-we will see more people trying to repeat what pz myers did.

Yes! And not just over this public desecration but because these desecration are occuring all the time on a private level. I know the local church has regularly found consecrated hosts inbetween pages in the hymnals in the pews. The Priest or eucharistic minister doesn’t know when a person is Catholic or not and some non-Catholics receive the host and then never consume it. This is a negative side of receiving the host in your hands rather than having the Priest place it in a person’s mouth for one thing. Another thing is reverance and piety and belief have decreased among the faithful. The statistics have shown that many Catholic lay people do not necessarily have a firm belief in the Real Presence and that in itself has cost the Church because they receive out of habit not out of belief with reverance. So if this is happening now it is part of the slippery slope that began when some, in smll ways, began to alter the liturgy or changed the placement of the tabernacle and in essence ‘taught’ that Jesus was not really present in the Eucharist. I saw this years ago when even religion books i was teaching out of placed the emphasis on the ‘community’ over the Real Presence or God. Hopefully through these more startling occurances of disrespect and blasphemy we can wake up and remember again what we truly have in our churches. By ‘remembering’, I mean deepen out faith and piety for the Blessed Sacrament.

The enemy will try to destroy the Eucharist. Are we, the faithful, up to defending it?

Wow o wow dept! AGAIN! I too am wondering if this guy got his cues from the Myers’ affair. Well, I guess we’ll see how this one pans out as well.
