America Must Stand with South Dakota
9/19/06

Earlier this year, the South Dakota legislature made history by passing a law to protect children in the womb — and their mothers — by banning abortion. Inspired by South Dakota’s leadership, other states started preparing similar life-saving laws, and a renewed sense of hope began to spread across America.

Now the South Dakota abortion ban is in serious trouble — and your help is desperately needed.

Unless faithful believers throughout America provide an immediate — and mighty — outpouring of prayers, volunteer efforts, and financial support for the people of South Dakota, Planned Parenthood is poised to kill the ban, kill the hopes of similar bans in at least 12 other states, and kill over 250,000 innocent children at its abortion facilities across the country in the next 12 months.

In fact, at this very moment Planned Parenthood is unleashing an unprecedented $8 million “shock and awe” bombardment of South Dakota airwaves in an effort to crush the abortion ban and deal a devastating blow to pro-life legislators attempting to enact abortion bans around the country.

Planned Parenthood is putting it all on the line because it knows this isn’t only about South Dakota. This pivotal battle has sweeping national implications that will determine the fate of the abortion industry, and the fate of millions of innocent children and their mothers in all 50 states.

Let me briefly explain why winning in South Dakota is so crucial, how Planned Parenthood is trying to defeat the ban, and what you can do to make a difference at this crucial time.

Why Winning in South Dakota Is So Crucial

The South Dakota legislators did their homework before passing the courageous abortion ban, and their diligence has produced a law with the potential to directly confront — and even overturn — the tragic Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that imposed abortion on all 50 states, and resulted in the deaths of more than 47 million innocent children. Continued:

This is an excellent article. Does anyone know of any reason why a Catholic would NOT want to support this bill? (the website done by the archdiocese in awesome!)

Please donate to this cause and ask every pro-Life person you know to donate as well. Help the referendum pass in the upcoming election. We can win this, but we need to all do our part. Planned Parenthood is sending money from all over the country to influence this pivotal battle. We have to counter-act that!

And here is some excellent information, both written and especially the audio conference call is inspiring, featuring:
  • Gianna Jessen, who survived a late-term saline abortion and is alive and grown up today and able to talk about it.
  • Father Frank Pavone - director of Priests for Life
  • Judie Brown - President of American Life League
  • Janet Folger - President of Faith2Action, who has put out a bold request that Pope Benedict help raise awareness of this urgent battle, because this one election could speed the demise of abortion-on-demand and save countless lives.

I hope that Planned Parenthood sheerly and utterly fails.
:amen: :blessyou:

According to the conference call I linked in my other post, the polls show it is very close. PP is pumping lots of money into an advertising war in South Dakota. Even so, the battle still seems very winnable. That would answer a lot of prayers!

No thanks… I don’t see the point in all of this.

If I lived in SD, and chose to have an abortion, I could still drive to another state and get one

If I was a 15 year old pregnant girl, I would get a fake ID and drive to another state, and get one.

They are wasting time and taxpayer $$$. They will achieve nothing and look stupid trying.

Education is the key to reducing abortion.

People want to obliterate it completely in a day. Education sounds like a awful lot of work.

It’s wrong to assume that people who are working for a legal prohibition against killing the unborn are so foolish as to think that it will be stopped in one day, or that they are unsufficiently dedicated or too lazy to do the hard work of education.

Education really is hard work, as you noted. And it is work well worth doing, because any woman (or man for that matter) who really knows what abortion is and its effects would never choose it. It would be stupid as well as evil. Planned Parenthood has a lot of money. Do you think they are using it to spread the truth about abortion? What kind of “education” do you think they are broadcasting?

You seem to be in favor of education. Would you be willing to read the following quote on the latest findings about abortion in South Dakota? Check out the pdf source material quoted in the source document and, if you feel it is true, share this information with as many people as you can. Or at least share the information which you do believe is true. Would you be willing to do that? Do you think it is important?
The abortion law came as the result of a year-long, comprehensive South Dakota task force report that studied the effects of abortion on America over the last 33 years. Every aspect of abortion was analyzed, and over 3,500 pages of scientific research were collected. Fifty-four national and international experts testified, and thousands of affidavits were collected from women who had been hurt by abortion. Both sides were given equal time and an equal number of expert witnesses.
At the conclusion of the research, the findings were condensed into a groundbreaking 72-page report that can be downloaded in its entirety from: voteyesforlife.com/docs/Task_Force_Report.pdf
The Task Force Report reached two overwhelming conclusions:
    • Abortion terminates the life of a separate, distinct, living human being which can now be proven scientifically with DNA evidence and research in the field of molecular biology.
    • Abortion hurts women , causing major physical, mental, emotional and spiritual consequences that can be devastating to their lives.
The evidence was so clear and compelling that two-thirds of the South Dakota legislature – a broad, bipartisan majority – passed the abortion ban. The evidence was so clear and compelling that South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds signed the ban into law. And the evidence was so clear and compelling that at least 12 other states began actively working to enact abortion bans similar to the one in South Dakota.
Government has a duty to protect its citizens, and the U.S. Supreme Court has stated that if new evidence comes forth to demonstrate the personhood of the child in the womb, or the negative affect abortion has on women, it would have to consider that evidence.
In fact, the Roe v. Wade decision clearly states, “If this suggestion of personhood is established, the appellant’s case, of course, collapses, for the fetus’ right to life would then be guaranteed…”
The South Dakota task force report establishes and presents that evidence, in a clear and compelling way.

We need to send money right now to the Pro-Life groups helping out in South Dakota. This is as important as selecting Judges for the Supreme Court. Which ever way this goes it will pick up steam and move throughout the nation. We must get a Pro-Life Victory here. Please pray and send money if you can.

Drew Mariani will be covering this topic today on his afternoon show on Relevant Radio which you can get over the internet.

The message of Our Lady of Fatima.

I live in South Dakota and was at a youth rally that had over 500 high school age kids (I estimate that 80% of the youth were teen girls @ the rally. Where were the boys? ) there on Wednesday night to promote this initiative. Tomorrow, volunteers will put up thousands of yard signs.

In every parish last Sunday, the two bishops had played a tape of a homily explaining how it was imperative that Catholics make a stand with Christ on this issue. After Mass, yard signs and bumper stickers were handed out. Personally, I picked the one that said “South Dakota- The killing stops here” to symbolize my understanding that this is the first battleground. Defeat will set back the effort to protect unborn children and their mothers decades. I like to call abortion the “Incestor and Rapist Protection Act” because of how it is used to destroy the “evidence” and allows the predation to continue.

The VoteyesforLife.com is leading the grass roots effort where they have a decided and very visible advantage. However, I fear that money will prevail. NONE of the major TV stations covered this amazing rally in support of this law. The pro-abortion people know they don’t have any grass roots support so they are concentrating on media buys. Unless the voteyesforlife.com/ cause recieves enough money to match the pro-abortion side, I fear what the consequences might be. I challenge you to match your weekly contribution to your parish with equal support for this campaign. We are fighting for you all!

I am contributing money and urge everyone who reads this to do likewise. Thank you for your insightful post and may God bless all you faithful warriors in South Dakota! 👍

The point is to protect human beings awaiting birth from assassination.
How are YOU doing that?
Well, it’s true - I could do more. I do contribute what I can, etc. And I come here because I think it is also good to try to exchange ideas with others of good will.

Probably some young girls in South Dakota might do some of the things you mention. But on the other hand there are probably some who are not so adamant about the abortion, and because of the inconvenience of getting an abortion, will end up allowing their children to be born, and they will probably be glad they did. Because new people coming into the world are a good thing, even if they arrive inconveniently. Sometimes people like me who say that are hypocrites because we are not always as nice as we should be to the very people who might have been aborted once they grow up. That is my bad, and I must continually try to do better in that regard. But my personal moral failures do not change the fact that the unborn person deserves life and is glad to have it if he or she is not snuffed out before even seeing the light of day.

The message of Our Lady of Fatima.
Fr. Corapi visited SD in July. He recognized the battle taking place over the Women’s Health and Human Life Protection Act. He urged everyone to pray his 9-1-1 novena for the passage of this law.

The 9-1-1 prayer includes Blessed Teresa of Calcutta’s “emergency novena” of nine Memorares, one Rosary and one Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

The Diocese of Sioux Falls has also approved a prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe for her help in passing this law:
God our Father, source of all life, you have
given us, as men and women created in
your image and likeness, the great gift of
bringing human life into the world and caring for
it through self-giving love. Sadly, many of us are
infl uenced by the culture of death, which destroys
life rather than cares for it. Hear our prayer:
through the power of your Son’s death and
resurrection bring victory to those who seek to
promote the culture of life through the Women’s
Health and Human Life Protection Act (House
Bill 1215 - Referred Law 6).
Lord, You know the mothers, fathers,
physicians and others who have been involved in
the evil of abortion. Grant that they may come to
know and receive Your mercy and forgiveness.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit touch their
hearts, heal their wounds, comfort their grief and
open their eyes to the truth.
We pray also for those who work to defend the
culture of life. Anoint them with Your power to
speak the truth in love. Send Your holy angels to
protect us in this battle, for it is a battle to protect
the most innocent and pure of our world: children
yet to be born.
We ask this through the intercession of Our
Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas,
and in the Name of Jesus who is Lord forever and
ever.
Amen.

One of the items I do not understand is the church’s stance on the pro-life issue and aiding and abetting in a sacralege.

Here is what I see

A politician votes on pro-choice issues time after time.

A politician gets divorced (no annulment) from a catholic marriage, re-marries and lives in sin.

A politician votes for same sex marriage.

A politician votes for stem cell research.

These same politicians are Catholic.

The priests give these politicians holy communion.

What is a Catholic to think, we are told it is a mortal sin to promote these ideals, the priest knows this politician is committing a sacraledge yet gives communion.

Why should the lay people be expected to be confrontational on these issues when the church is not

Yes, I’m afraid the Church has its failings. I would totally agree with you on this point. I wonder why Jesus did not cast out Judas Iscariot from his number, even though he knew he would betray him?
