Washington D.C., Nov 4, 2009 / 03:44 pm (CNA).- Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, sent an urgent message this week to the group’s base asking for pro-abortion Catholics to defy the U.S. bishops, who are campaigning against the current versions of health care legislation on Capitol Hill because they fund abortion.

Well a pro-abortion person cannot be catholic, so PP once again has no idea of who they are talking too. And you can oppose the Church all you want but that wont change a thing. Hasn’t 2000 years of trying to do that sunk in yet?

Keep on pushing PP but your will not come in we know the end of this story.😉

She’s the daughter of the former Governor of Texas, Ann Richards, and worked as an assistant to Nancy Pelosi before her present job. Could’t find if she was a Catholic but doubt it. And I couldn’t copy and paste cite for above info. Comes from PP’s site.

Church, IMO, needs to step it up and declare if you are pro-choice/abortion, you are NOT a Catholic.

I am sure that PP is appealing to the “Kennedy” Catholics-that is Catholics who’s Faith is secondary to their politics.

Hello,
When I got an email about Ms Richard asking us Catholics to oppose our Bishops, I first thought it was an hoax. So I researched the original message that she sent out and I found it here: ppaction.org/ppaction/notice-description.tcl?newsletter_id=18736395

So this is for real folks, and it’s reinforcing the belief that abortion is a black or white type of issue.

So now, choose your side my friends. One the one hand, there is the Church led by the Bishops, successors of the Apostles who were appointed by Christ Himself. On the other hand, we have the largest provider of abortions in the United States. PP was founded by Margaret Sanger, a woman with questionable eugenics motives (I could provide more details about her life and legacy later).

I choose Jesus and I choose Life. What will you choose?

When I read up on Sanger, I surprised to learn she didn’t promote abortion…birth control yes.

Anyone want to start a catholic letter writing campaign to their local reps, senator and planned parenthood with me? I’d like to errr…umm… at least give my answer to this call 😉

That’s a good point, but let’s see what she was fighting for:

“No woman can call herself free who does not own and control her body. No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not be a mother.”
“…human weeds,’ ‘reckless breeders,’ 'spawning… human beings who never should have been born.” Margaret Sanger, Pivot of Civilization, referring to immigrants and poor people
“A woman’s physical satisfaction was more important than any marriage vow”. Birth Control in America, p. 11
“The marriage bed is the most degenerating influence in the social order,” Sanger said. (p. 23)
“The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.” The Woman Rebel, Volume I, Number 1. Reprinted in Woman and the New Race. New York: Brentanos Publishers, 1922.
“[Our objective is] unlimited sexual gratification without the burden of unwanted children…” The Woman Rebel, Volume I, Number 1. Reprinted in Woman and the New Race. New York: Brentanos Publishers, 1922.

And her legacy (statistics from PP):

-Facts on contraception
• 62 million U.S. women are in their childbearing years (15–44).
• 43 million women of reproductive age, or 7 in 10, are sexually active and do not want to become pregnant, but could become pregnant if they or their partners fail to use a contraceptive method.
• The typical U.S. woman wants only 2 children. To achieve this goal, she must use contraceptives for roughly 3 decades.
• Virtually all women (98%) aged 15–44 who have ever had intercourse have used at least one contraceptive method.
• Overall, 62% of the 62 million women aged 15–44 are currently using one.
• 31% of the 62 million women do not need a method because they are infertile; are pregnant, postpartum or trying to become pregnant; have never had intercourse; or are not sexually active.
• Thus, only 7% of women aged 15–44 are at risk of unwanted pregnancy but are not using contraceptives.
• Among the 42 million fertile, sexually active women who do not want to become pregnant, 89% are practicing contraception.

-Who has abortions?
• Fifty percent of U.S. women obtaining abortions are younger than 25: Women aged 20–24 obtain 33% of all abortions, and teenagers obtain 17%.[7]
• Thirty-seven percent of abortions occur to black women, 34% to non-Hispanic white women, 22% to Hispanic women and 8% to women of other races.**
• Forty-three percent of women obtaining abortions identify themselves as Protestant, and 27% as Catholic.[3]
• Women who have never married obtain two-thirds of all abortions.[3]

-Reasons U.S. Women Have Abortions: Quantitative and Qualitative Perspectives
Context: Understanding women’s reasons for having abortions can inform public debate and policy regarding abortion and unwanted pregnancy. Demographic changes over the last two decades highlight the need for a reassessment of why women decide to have abortions.
Methods: In 2004, a structured survey was completed by 1,209 abortion patients at 11 large providers, and in-depth interviews were conducted with 38 women at four sites. Bivariate analyses examined differences in the reasons for abortion across subgroups, and multivariate logistic regression models assessed associations between respondent characteristics and reported reasons.
Results: The reasons most frequently cited were that having a child would interfere with a woman’s education, work or ability to care for dependents (74%); that she could not afford a baby now (73%); and that she did not want to be a single mother or was having relationship problems (48%). Nearly four in 10 women said they had completed their childbearing, and almost one-third were not ready to have a child. Fewer than 1% said their parents’ or partners’ desire for them to have an abortion was the most important reason. Younger women often reported that they were unprepared for the transition to motherhood, while older women regularly cited their responsibility to dependents.

I’m not kidding either, I’m already cooking up a letter in my mind right now.
It’s funny because my husband and I had the same thought than you last night!

I’m shocked and saddened that PP would dare to write that to us or to any body of Christian believers for that matters. Unfortunately, many of our brothers and sisters are confused about Church Teachings. I’m praying for all to always seek the Truth.

Pro-abortion Catholics already oppose the Bishops. What’s next? Calls for water to be wet?

The above is an article in The American Catholic titled “Margaret Sanger Was Against Abortion?”

She considered the abortions of thousands “a disgrace to civilization” and no matter “how early it was performed, it (abortion) was the taking of life.”
Thanks for sharing this, I always want to seek the Truth. I didn’t mean to say that she openly supported abortion, but by her anti-child bearing, anti minorities statements and actions, Margaret Sanger has laid the ground for the culture of death, especially the “all child a wanted child” culture. Please read my previous post with PP statistics on why/who uses contraceptives and abortion.

Mrs Sanger has indeed achieved her goal to demonize child bearing and to control minority populations with her eugenics obsession (a Black baby is 5 times more likely to be killed in the womb than a White Baby) and the disabled (85% downs syndrom kids aborted today) and to celebrate sex without taking responsibilities.

She gave “the ends” (control over child bearing, eugenics), abortion advocates gave the most radical “means” (legally killing the child in the womb). It might not be her means of predilection (sterilization, birth control pills/devices) but she was defending an evil in the first place. They just took it to the next level, making it greater, violent, radical and available. That’s why I’m saying that abortion as we know it today is her legacy.

I’m sorry that I was not able to find it, but I know that there is a PP report that states that birth control failure is the number one reason for seeking abortions. I’ll keep searching. Again, thank you for seeking the Truth.

From this article:
Finally, Margaret Sanger and her organization began to be primary sponsors of abortion rights during her lifetime. But because she had associated herself with Adolph Hitler, praising him for his racial politics of eugenics, she changed the name of American Birth Control League to Planned Parenthood during WWII in order to disguise her racist past.[13] Today, her organization, Planned Parenthood, is still in the forefront of advocating abortion as a means of eliminating the unwanted and “unfit.” Not only does the organization perform thousands abortions each year, it also receives 100’s of millions of tax dollars each year through Federal and State Governments.[14] And rather than being in the forefront of a woman’s right to choose, International Planned Parenthood is a primary advocate for the Chinese Government’s policy of forcing women to have abortions against their will, and it also advocates for the sterilization of Third World non-Whites across the globe.[15] It seems that PP is “pro-choice” when trying to impress the U.S. media, but anti-choice in the actual implementation of its world-wide agenda.
I also read once that she had a few abortions herself. I am still trying to find that and I will post it when I do. But Margaret Sanger did promote abortion, especially for the end of the undesirable.

IMO, using Sanger’s words re. abortion is a good tool in the fight against abortion. I believe it is for the convenience of the mother for most abortions. And abortion is used as a means of birth control.

I thought the above was interesting. Hard to believe a woman’s ovulation wasn’t understood until 1905, and the rhythm method wasn’t developed until the 1930s. How little anyone knew.

Those who failed to do so should have stepped it up several decades ago by teaching their flock the difference between right and wrong. If they had, we wouldn’t be faced with this predicament. Most of them have given their flock too little too late. Only the very faithful will follow them and those are very few.
