Planned Parenthood of Greater New York will remove the name of Margaret Sanger, a founder of the national organization, from its Manhattan health clinic because of her “harmful connections to the eugenics movement,” the group said on Tuesday.

[edit]

The actions thrust Ms. Sanger onto a growing list of historical figures whose legacies are being re-evaluated amid both widespread protests against systemic racism and a pandemic that has exposed racial and economic inequalities in health care services.

Yes, I heard about this… big story. Her views were atrocious. Maybe now, people will start seeing Planned Parenthood for what it is. And it’s true, Planned Parenthood staff find themselves on Capitol Hill as staff for some Senators and Representatives and in one case, the Senate, Tina Smith. An abomination.

When Republicans are accused of racism, it’s absolutely child’s play. Democrats have given this organization full funding, support for Margaret Sanger with those awards. Held up judicial nominations, the list goes on and on. We don’t need to go through the Demographics, no way am I voting in support of that. Time to say that is on the people who keep this funding up, make our laws as lenient as possible.

I’m very impressed.

Now will Hillary finally turn her back on Sanger?
That would impress me even more.

it is all for show, they will still do her work

the genocide will continue

Now will Hillary finally turn her back on Sanger?
When Hillary Clinton received the Margaret Sanger award in 2009, here’s what she said during her acceptance speech:
“Now, I have to tell you that it was a great privilege when I was told that I would receive this award. I admire Margaret Sanger enormously, her courage, her tenacity, her vision … And when I think about what she did all those years ago in Brooklyn, taking on archetypes, taking on attitudes and accusations flowing from all directions, I am really in awe of her.”
I believe the answer to your question would be a resounding NO.

It is something, maybe this never would have happened without all of the unrest that has gone on since Memorial Day, people heightening their consciences… and in some cases, this was very much needed.

Maybe dominoes?

Yes, one can argue at this point, it is symbolic but it still is something.

Is this the CAF corollary to Godwin’s law? Eventually all threads will mention Hillary.
Hillary and Sanger are connected.

But somehow that is Godwin’s Law (or corollary) in action?

Really.

As stated above, Hillary won the Sanger award.

Can you imagine the Republicans receiving an award associated with Sanger? Her writings are said to be racist and possibly even belying a white supremacist attitude.

Trump was awarded otoh, the tree of life award from Jewish charitable organizations.

Bringing up Godwin’s law seems inappropriate and I wonder if it could be a tactic to shame someone or trivialize what they said. The connection seems germaine to the conversation.

Seems a bit ironic, doesn’t it? An organization dedicated to killing children for money shrinks from being thought racist??? Have we really come to a point where racist sentiments are thought more seriously evil than killing? It seems so.

Didn’t Hillary receive the Margaret Sanger award from Planned Parenthood?
Will they ask for it back and give her another award?

I would be impressed if they had done this BEFORE pro lifers started pointing out the disgusting origins of Planned Parenthood.

As it is, this just reminds me of those dioceses that suddenly start investigating abuse after the state and federal authorities have got interested.

Sanger wasn’t necessarily racist. She actually opposed abortion, too. She wanted eugenics to be carried out “voluntarily” through family planning and birth control.

They said on the EWTN news the other night that it’s not clear whether Sanger believed black Americans were one of the groups that shouldn’t reproduce.

But they explained what eugenics was (picking and choosing) and obviously that’s wrong according to our faith anyway.

Sanger wasn’t necessarily racist.
Actually, she was. A white supremacist.
I would applaud Planned Parenthood for disavowing her, but I would also keep in mind her own words:

“We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members,”

I read the letter this is from and I’m not convinced she isn’t being earnest here. She’s worried about people coming to believe that she and her organisation aims to exterminate the black population in America, but there’s no indication she actually does want to do that.
