Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

You may be aware that Planned Parenthood will soon open a clinic that will provide abortions within the boundaries of the Diocese of Joliet. Located on the border of Naperville and Aurora, this will be the second abortion clinic to open in DuPage County in the past five years. I am deeply saddened that DuPage County will soon hold the distinction of hosting five abortion clinics within its borders.

The proposed opening of the new clinic is a troubling development. For everyone concerned, abortion is a source of great suffering and sorrow. As Catholics, we hope in the Lord of Life. Made in his image and likeness, we know that human life is sacred. At times like this, it is important to remember that our lives are not our own. Each of us belongs to Christ, and he asks us to serve him in one another and to show particular concern for the most vulnerable among us.

As Catholics, we will stand proudly and consistently “For Life” in our diocese. Rather than collapsing in negativity, we call on all people of good will to respond with positive action. Every step we take must be peaceful.

Prayer is our most powerful weapon. Pray that the Gospel of Life will take root and flourish in the seven counties that make up our diocese. Pray for all pregnant women in need, particularly those who find themselves in seemingly desperate situations. Pray for a conversion of heart in those who support and work at abortion facilities. Pray for healing of those who suffer the impact of abortion.

Work through your parish and area Pro-Life organizations to make known your Pro-Life convictions. Do what you can to offer support to pregnant women in need. Write letters to the editor of the local newspapers and to elected officials expressing opposition and concern, and always do so in a peace-filled, respectful manner. Our peaceful demeanor is one way we will consistently demonstrate our love and respect for all life.

Please join me on Friday, September 7 in a day of prayer and penance for the promotion of a Culture of Life and an end to abortion. Pray in the manner of your choosing – perhaps attend Mass that day, pray the rosary or other favorite prayers, for the intention of an increased respect for the sacredness of life. Choose a simple penance in keeping with your health and daily duties – abstain from meat or sweets that day, or refrain from television or other entertainment. Such simple efforts on our part can be a powerful witness to our neighbors and a sign to our Heavenly Father that we love the life – the lives – he has given us.

May we never tire of proclaiming the dignity and worth of every human life. May we never tire of serving the vulnerable and their caregivers with generous hearts. And may we never cease to pray for the day when all people, and all societies, will defend the life of every human from conception to natural death.

Over 1,000 Prayerfully Protest Aurora (IL) Abortion Clinic by Dan Gura

On September 18th Planned Parenthood is prepared to open one of the largest abortion mills in the United States–if not the world–in Aurora, Illinois. Several groups, including the Pro-Life Action League and Families Against Planned Parenthood, are fighting the good fight–God’s fight–to stop the slaughter of innocent babies.

Saturday, August 25th, dawned with dark gray foreboding skies on the western horizon. All across Chicagoland, homeowners cast a wary eye at the gathering storm clouds as they began their weekend. To the north, a light drizzle joined the foot of rain already on the ground. As I drove south on Route 53, my windshield wipers beat out a steady rhythm as the rain grew heavier. I know that I am not the only one who said prayer for the storm to hold off until the afternoon.

You know, for Planned Parenthood to plan such a large facility, they must see a large demand for one in that area. What is business like at the other 4 abortion clinics in DuPage? Has PP seen a lot of clients that were from the Aurora area? Also don’t forget that PP also offers contraception and paps to women who can’t necessarily afford private care. I’ve often thought that the best opposition to Planned Parenthood abortions would be opening clinics that also provided paps and contraception on a sliding scale but without abortions (I understand this wouldn’t work for Catholics, but it would for most other pro-life folk). Is this facility just an abortion clinic or is it also going to provide paps & contraception? My niece is pro-life but she goes to PP for contraception. Give her an option, she’d go elsewhere.

I predict the clinic will open on time and after a couple months everyone but a few hardy folk who still say the Rosary outside the clinic will have forgotten it was ever not there.

“Full Service Health Center” According to the CEO/President of PP Chicago…

Now, I bet they aren’t delivering babies, wouldn’t that be a full service?

I also thought that I had read where V.Gene Robinson (Gay Bishop in the ECUSA) has either made some comments about this facility and / or is going to be there for the opening…so I’m trying to find that out if anyone knows…thanks!

Candlelight Vigil at PP-Aurora on Friday, September 7th, at 9:15PM

Most Reverend J. Peter Sartain, Bishop of Joliet, has requested a day of prayer and penance on Friday, September 7th, for the promotion of a Culture of Life and an end to abortion. As one of many responses to this request, a Candlelight Vigil will be held at the Planned Parenthood Aurora abortion site on that day, starting at 9:15PM. The facility is located at 3051 E. New York St., Aurora, IL.

This special Vigil will unite Catholics from the Joliet Diocese and all people of good will in public witness to the power of prayer.

The Vigil provides a supplement to–not a replacement for–the many parish commemorations of the September 7th day of prayer and penance.
 
Unfortunately from what I’ve seen in the video and pictures the leaders are still of the old mind set of protesting abortion, unfortunately this has been highly unsuccessful in the last 35 years.

These photos they use are simpy too poor of quality or certainly the wrong age for the baby. But they are still bought even though the right signs are available and are much more effective.

I think part of this is because the old “rescuers” are usually in charge, the people who used to physically and violently stop women from going into an abortion clinic. How does that change the culture? It doesn’t.

Now I want to be clear that I do understand that these old photos do sometimes save lives, but why would you use a pistol when a bazooka is available and we know that it will work where the pistol did and so much more!

If you want to SAVE babies and not just talk about babies you should get these signs: abortionno.com/Store/choice_signs.html. Yes they are gross but thats the point, they aren’t watered down almost “Cute” aborted babies photos like the Malachi ones or the others that don’t have blood and these photos on this page are of a much high quality.

The signs with words on them like “Aboriton Kills Babies” makes you feel good, they don’t save lives, nor does the photo of “Life” with the baby who is born.

Unforutunately many so called prolife leaders are keenly aware of this fact but continue their ineffective tactics sometimes for selfish reasons.

What happens is that they sometimes even know this but want to use the “Cuter” signs to avoid scaring away prolife people who wouldn’t feel comfortable around them and wouldn’t be there. That’s a game we shouldn’t be playing.

It is not always that the “old rescuers” are in charge.

It is also that the purchase of these signs can cost thousands of dollars. It cost about $150.00 for one large Malachi signs. When a group has already made that kind of financial investment, it is very difficult to switch the format of signs to make a display. Most prolife groups struggle when it comes to finances.
 
Good point, wow thats outrageous on the cost of the malachi sign! YOu can get a “Choice” sign from CBR for 39 and I know you can get two for less then 100 shipped. You take it as it is a big sticker and paste it onto the malachi sign for the back drop. That is more effective. Let me give you two photos to prove it:

I think its obvious if you had 100 of the first one it would do much more good then 100 of the second one.
 
I am originally from a suburb of Chicago that is near Aurora. Just for interest, here is a first-hand account of a friend of mine who attended the city council meeting:

"So, ironically last night I didn’t even speak. I showed up with another youth minister friend of mine. … We got into the City Council room it was packed to the point that people were out in the hallway.

"In the 26 years that my mother has been blessed with my existence, I have never ever been to a City Council meeting. So at first I thought wow, this is a lot of people, I wonder if this many people always show up? The first hour was all boring business stuff that you wonder why anyone really even has to care or vote about those things, but whatever. Then one of the alderman made a call to finish the meeting @ 9PM no matter what and that the first hour should only be Aurora residents. Another alderman, thankfully one from the Holy Angels district spoke up and said that they were there for the people and because of the people and it was unconstitutional to not allow people from other cities speak. Well they had a vote and we won by 1 alderman vote.

"I stayed until midnight, but the meeting did not finish until 1:30AM. For the entire time that I was there, only 2 Pro Planned Parenthood representatives presented. Of course they were from NOW, one of the 3 most hated organizations on my list along with NARAL and PP. They were old biddies who were totally not in touch with reality. They claimed that we were all outsiders and extremists. Kinda funny, cause all night I only heard 3 people who were not from Aurora speak. After the one lady’s stupid comments, every Pro-Lifer got up and said well, based on the fact that I have lived here in Aurora for 20, 50, or whatever amount of years I don’t consider myself an outsider and as someone who has true concern for the protection of my family I don’t consider myself a fanatic. The speakers were lawyers, teachers, moms, nurses, doctors. They represented multiple ethnicities, ages, and religions. However, they all stood together for the cause of Life. There were retired military veterans that got up and talked about their promise to protect every American citizen and they believed that to be born and unborn. … CONTINUED IN NEXT POST…
 
Friend’s personal account of city council meeting - part 2:

The one doctor I remember the most was a woman of African American descent and she was an OBGYN and she talked about all the women she continually treats from the after affects of abortions. She gave a powerful testament with graphic details of how she has found leftover baby body parts in women, and how women come in and will never be able to have children again. All kinds of sad stuff. But man she was Charismatic and a tough cookie who knew her stuff.

There were pastors and priests from every denomination there talking about how many women they had counseled. There were teenagers and young people who were awesome in their speeches. Honestly, I have to say it was truly the closest I have had to a spiritual experience without being in a real church. It was awesome.

And everyone of the speakers got up and pointed out the district they were from and the alderman and reminded them come election time they would remember how they voted on this issue. There were speakers who even challenged the council with asking them what kind of legacy would they be leaving if this is allowed.

Plus, another irony, the city’s phrase all over the banners is, “Character counts”. So everyone brought that phrase up and reminded the council about the lack of character Planned Parenthood had in coming into the community.

My name had still not been announced, which by midnight I decided I really just have to go home, because I do have work in the morning. Hence, I never spoke but really all the topics had been covered and it was just important to be a body who was present to prove that it wasn’t just something a small group of people felt affected by. Regardless, all went well and it was a really cool experience.

I know that the mayor has agreed to an investigation, but hopefully he will do the independent investigation as we asked for, make the findings public, suspend PP from opening until the investigation is finished, and if they got into the community illegally revoke their license to be there. That is what the hope is, but for now all we can do is keep praying and hoping. I will keep you posted as I know more details. Youth For Truth Rally (9-1-07) Was Incredible!!!

On Saturday, Sept. 1st, local area teens organized an incredible show of support for LIFE. The teen rally drew hundreds of teens from around the area and showed us adults that they have what it takes to take a stand for LIFE, for what is most important. I was impressed with their energy, enthusiasm and their zeal for the cause. When I saw their faces, I could tell that they were motivated by a knowledge that they too might have had a similar fate if their mothers exercised their (selfish) “right to choose”. But thanks be to God, that their mothers made the loving choice, to die to their own selfs, and give birth to such a great generation of teens.
