What is the shoe game? The Shoe Game is fun! I’ve seen it at two weddings (two sisters) and thought it was cute.
You seat the bride and groom back to back and have them remove their shoes. What is the shoe game?
That is too cute! We may have to do that at our rehearsal dinner!!!You seat the bride and groom back to back and have them remove their shoes.
Groom gives one of his shoe to the bride & bride gives one of hers to him.
They are asked a list of questions to determine how well they know each other.
Things like “Who is most likely to be annoyed by long grass and mow the lawn first?”
They raise the shoe of the person they think it will be.
Its a huge tradition on both sides of my family and honestly, I’ve never attended a Catholic wedding in my area that didn’t have a dollar dance as well. The dance floor was cleared but it was all polka music and once the guest is done dancing with either the bride or the groom, if they’re of age, they get a shot of whiskey or schnapps. People can give any denomination they want and can go throught the line as many times as they want too. I’ve always remembered it as being a lot of fun for all, both when I was a guest and when I was the bride. Its usually done towards the end of the reception and when it seems everyone has gone through the line for their chance to dance with either the bride or the groom, the guests form a circle around the bride so the groom can’t cant to her and take her away to begin the honeymoon. Its usually a final farewell to the newly married couple and the guests then stay and party until the reception is over.I think the dollar dance is more of a Midwestern thing. I don’t see a problem with it because I’ve always seen it done, and all the guests know what it is, expect it, and enjoy it. I think it’s nice if for no other reason than it gives the bride and groom a minute with everyone to say hi, thank them for coming, etc. And the guests get a private moment to wish the couple well.
The bride and groom are then given the money for their honeymoon.
Congratulations!!!I’m very excited to be planning mine and my fiance’s wedding, (only 14 months to go!), but I have to say it gets a tad bit overwhelming at times! I guess I didn’t realize how much work goes into it, lol!
At any rate, I’m posting a thread here looking for some suggestions about something specific. My fiance and I find the whole reaching up my dress, pulling off a garter, and tossing it to other men thing kind of vulgar. I’m not necessarily judging people who want to do that, I’m just saying it isn’t for us. The problem is that we cannot decide whether to replace it with something else (and if so, what??), or to just nix it completely and have me just toss the bouquet. Or should we just not do either??
(Side note: I did pose this question to our wedding party, but they all seem to agree that we are silly for letting that bother us, since they view it as a simple wedding reception “tradition.”)
I suppose I would just like to hear what other people think. Are we being silly, or should we do something else? And what suggestions would you have?
Thanks for reading, and responding!
