I hope posting articles is not inappropriate but here is one from America byFr James Martin SJ about Satanic groups erecting statues and holding black masses. Fr Martin is hardly the most orthodox (to say the least) but the article is spot on.

He is right that such groups have no idea what they are messing with.

I’m not worried about these guys because they are public and identifiable.

The real Satan is hidden - in the glance at a married man, in the super-size order of french fries, in FM pop radio, in the snooze button, in a shiny new $8000 bicycle or a $900 golf club, and in Cosmopolitan magazine placed at a ten year old girl’s eye level at the supermarket checkout.

These guys wouldn’t know Satan if he rear ended them on the freeway. Satan doesn’t give a crud about these guys because they are already on his side. The real Satan is after fathers surfing the Internet and people in the pew who love Jesus.

Yes. Satan doesn’t bother with those who are already residing in his back pocket. He’s after the holy people of the world. Because his goal is to lead people from the Lord.

Well said,

Mary.

He uses such people to lead God’s people astray, so I would say, yes, he does care about them.

Not just.

The Catechism says the devil is a murderer and a liar, father of all lies. He seeks to seduce all humans into his revolt against God. The devil is an equal opportunity seducer, going after the fallen who make themselves available to him through idolatry, divination and other acts of stupidity as well as going after to good souls, the ordinary Joe and Josephine.

You may not have experience with evil such as these Jesuits have, but that doesn’t make their experience less valid.

Yes, I agree. Point made, but we must not think this is nothing. There are vulnerable people looking for something to believe or set themselves apart from others and this can attrack some which IS dangerous…the evil one uses all things he can to pull everyone down to his level. Thanks be to God He alone gives us the eyes to see and hear TRUTH! Alleluia!

Maybe we overassume that they are more than neutralized by the good angels and archangels?

Judging by the direction that the culture is trending, I’m not sure that the good angels are winning.

Some Jesuits have a personal experience of exorcism. The article in question mentions some of them. “The Exorcist” movie was based on the book, which in my view was a lot more frightening than the movie. But the book was based on an actual exorcism which occurred in the 1940’s. The subject was a boy, not a girl. I recall a priest in high school who had read the account of that exorcism and was thoroughly shaken by it. He didn’t give any details and I’m glad for that.
