Hi!
It has taken me a long long time to be able to post this but since as of late a lot of people have been talking about Mormonism I thought I would try to show people how I feel after being in Mormonism.
I really wanted to be Mormon the first time because a cute missionary taught me the gospel. I know that is a weird reason but I truly thought he would wait for me. In fact he did but I had left and gotten my name removed 3 weeks after being confirmed.

I joined again a about 2 years later. I felt like something was missing. I will be completely honest with all of you. My parents were never happy with me joining. They refused to go to my 2nd baptism. I left like 4 months later getting my name removed.

I was really shunned by some of the Mormon so - called friends I had. They blamed it all on me but really I wrote letters e-mailed and called. It just wasn’t enough.

I suffer from depression and have this urge to fit in since I was picked on my whole life. No one hated me in the LDS church but I know it is fake.

I know I may be treated bad because I wrote this but I have to say. I love being Catholic (I was Catholic growing up and fully embrassed after I left)

I still get paniced when I hear or see commercials becauise I think may be I was wrong. I go back and forth in my mind. I now know it is the Catholic church that is true and that I was brainwashed in Mormonism.

I know Mormons don’t want to hear that I was brainwashed but I must say it starts with the commericals and friendlyness then goes to the “I know this church is true”

I can’t get rid of some of the Mormon materials I have because I still have a lot of panic attacks. I once talked to a priest that swore there was a demon or something assocated with the Mormon church and offered to see if he could get me an exercism. I of corse declined but still ahven’t seeked full theropy since it is really expensive.

a lot of people on here have had questions about the Mormon church but I ask you to please look into the church teachings outside of the stamp of approval material. I want to save everyone the heartache I have had.

I still suffer everyday and wonder why I feel this way but I know I can’t go back to the Mormon church. Sometimes I will drive and just think Mormon or drive by a meeting house and start crying. I don’t know if it is the brain washing but I feel very screwed up.

I’m VERY happy in my Catholic faith but I am forever burned by the Mormon church.

I am embarrassed to write this because I feel like the only one but I would love our thoughts thank you :o

Please don’t be embarassed - its awesome that you can talk about this. I’m not Catholic (I’m protestant, but I have great love for the Catholic Church and an affinity for its teaching). Pray about it and focus on scripture - God’s word is true and if you read it, and pray about it, its truth will become compelling to you. As to the Catholic Church - I should let others more qualified reply, but I would suggest going to confession and developing a relationship with your local priest and see if he is willing to counsel with you and help suggest some readings and prayers to help you along the way.

As to the mormon church - I have some friends in the church which includes many lovely people - but it is not the truth - there can be only one truth and that is that Jesus Christ is our Lord and saviour, the only begotten son of God, the father almightly, creator of heaven and earth. Man can not, and did not, become a God (as the mormon church believes), but God became a man so He could take away the sin of the world. Its awesome and marvelous, and that is the truth that will set you free.

Blessings,

Brian

Welcome back Home. You have nothing to be embarrassed about and thank you for sharing you story. If your Priest thinks an exorcism is in order then you should follow through. it would not happen unless they can find evidence of demonic activity from what I know there is an investigation. Pray every day if you have a Rosary pray if not get one. I don’t know your age but get involved in the activities of your Parish. Join a Bible study in your parish.

I know that the warn fuzzy feeling the cults like the Mormons make it feel so welcoming and that you are so wanted and that for the most part that catholics walk into church silently and leave the same way it can be rather non welcoming if your not involved in anything other than going to Mass. The thing I had to Remember is that I am at Mas to Praise and worship God and our Lord Jesus. Not to socialize with those that were there as well. the Socialization with other come from building a relationship with the people in my Parish by me making the effort to be a active member of the parish other than being there on Sunday for Mass. I started going to the mens club meetings and to a bible study. and the church street festival.( its an intercity) parish. And you know what they did not ask me to do anymore than be there. I there was something that needed to be done and I want to do I volunteer if I don’t want to do it don’t and no one says a thing It does not matter they just want me there. Give it some time and just be there.

God bless

Anyways…like Robbinson said, you should not feel embarassed. That is a big part of what these forums are for is to reach out to people and hope for consolation.

We each follow a unique path in our journey of holiness and our search for God in our lives. Again, as Robbinson said, prayer is going to really help you through this. It seems like such a generic cop-out thing to say, but it is the truth.

Jesus Christ was more than a mere man, because a mere man would not have been able to teach the things Christ taught us and the sacrifice of a mere man would never have been sufficient for the sins of the whole world. The mystery of His Divinity made me fall in love with the Trinity. (I did not mean to make that rhyme.) The Trinity puts God at a level where we will never truly understand His divine nature. Though, the Trinity is a wonderful example of what true love is.

Also, as Robbinson said (I should just steal all his advice) it is good to use the sacraments. The Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) is a gift given to us by Christ Himself. He knew what we would go through and the gift of Him working through a priest can really help you spirtually as you try to grow away from your sins and your sin nature. Sometimes it can be therapeutic just talking too and not necessarily confessing anything specific. It helps to have a priest who likes (or better yet, loves) being a priest who truly appreciates the power of confession. This way they will be full of spiritual advice to help you continue on your journey.

Also make sure you stay more focused and participatory during Mass. If you are not yet attending Mass, please do yourself a favor and get to church! Truly be one with the prayers being said instead of sitting through another hour of Mass. Especially focus during the consecration and realize that the God of the Universe, who once became a fetus in the womb of a girl, is becoming a part of His creation for you. Just as God gave Himself completely for you on the cross, He is now, in the perfect example of humility, is giving Himself to you in the Eucharist. As you are going to receive Communion, realize that you are entering into Heaven and wash away the idea that this is a mere ritual and partaking in some ancient custom. As you walk down that aisle…you are getting one step closer to God.

As for the exorcism thing…you have me intrigued…that might be at least looking into more. I know I will be asking questions to people since you said that.

Patty, the thing with Mormonism is, when you leave, you will have large feelings of exclusion. You know the community they have, and that you are excluded. This is very common, for many people who have left that religion. And many people express feelings of wanting to go back, just so they can get rid of that feeling of exclusion.

It is very hurtful, and not of God. Not the true, loving God who wants you to be happy. It takes time to find your life after Mormonism, even for as short a time that you were in.

Let it go. You don’t need it. You have all you need in the Catholic Church. God is here, and has not left you.

And, I am truly sorry your journey is so difficult. 😦 You are in my prayers.

Rebecca

ps: I never cried so hard in my life as the day I realized that I was not only excluded from the community of Mormons, but my all-Mormon family as well. It is not easy to leave that religion.

welcome home patty! excellent post. thanks for sharing your experiences. certainly is this life we need to carry our own cross and follow him. GOD is merciful. i will pray for you and GOD bless. 🙂

Welcome home Patty!!! And remember that you have an awesome family now and a great heritage. (The Mormons “can’t hold a candle to it” but I’m sure that the “Father of Lies” wants them to believe that they can.) It was once said that the Catholic Faith is so deep that an elephant can swim and yet an ant can safely play in it. So lean on your Catholic faith. Learn about her 2000 years of history and the Saints, your elder brothers and sisters who have “run the race” and who, out of love, want to help you, their Christian family. Immerse yourself in your parish family–help when you can, enjoy their fellowship,

Thank you everyone for your kind words. They are truly helpful:thumbsup:

Unfortunately yes, a terrible waste of time!

I’m surprised they let you on this site. You are very rude to people. When you posted the first time you never even read what I wrote and you continue to smartmouth people. I’m shocked more people don’t report your posts. 🤷

Patty,
I think that the reason that zerinus is allowed on this site is because he is actually doing all of us a favor. In his spitefulness and his immature reasonings, we see what is really Mormon.

There’s been a theory out there for years that “Internet Mormons” are different than “Chapel Mormons”. Zerinus is able to show us all the reality of both. Someone who holds to his chapel beliefs and defends them on the internet.

Don’t let him get to you. You are HOME! Praise God that you and I both are. And like RebeccaJ, I too lost all my relatives when I left Mormonism. Jesus IS worth any price.

As to what your priest said, I say DO IT! I got rid of almost all of my Mormon stuff. It was very healing and although sometimes I would like to be able to pull out the old stuff that I had to “prove” what I was taught, there’s plenty of proof out there on the internet and Sandra Tanner is a good place to start. Utah Lighthouse Ministries has fought the good fight against the lies of Mormonism since I was a kid.

Psalm 91 is a must read for all of those of us who have been lied to in false belief systems. i.e. CULTs

in Christ
Steph

Psalm 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,

6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-

10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;

12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."

Patty, zerinus is a Mormon, and if what he reads isn’t “faith promoting”, it isn’t worth reading. Lies promote his faith, he can’t process truth. Not yet. Maybe some day he will be able to see through the fog that is Mormonism.

In the meantime, don’t worry about people like him. He is Mormon, and as such believes you are an apostate and going to hell. You and I know that this is yet another lie.

God bless,
Rebecca

Its a sad story.
Old Mike Travasser and the Strong City religion is like a mormonism that never hit the critical mass of beleivers needed to really fly. Like Westbro Baptist church and many others. Mormonism like christianity , Islam, and John Frumism is an example of what happens when they do.

Mormonism like scientology, is still so low on converts that it *needs *to apply fear, bullying and ostrication to its apostates.
Islam still does in a very real way, just as catholisism and the protestants did hundreds of years ago.

Overgrown cult really.

Your story touches my heart in ways that most don’t. I’ve read it a dozen times before I decided to post. You have my prayers.

Do not fear the pull of Mormonism. Yes, it is something that you will fight until you die, but you have the sacraments. You have the CHurch. You have us (not that we are much help). Remember that Jesus never told us it would be easy. He also told us that we might have to give up everything for him. You have chosen correctly.

I too had not wanted to give a full length reply to this post; but it seems I will have to.

So you became a Mormon because of a “cute Mormon” missionary, and left it three weeks later; then you rejoined it after two years (God knows for what crazy reason this time), and left it after four months; and you call that being “brainwashed”? According to what dictionary definition is that called “brainwashing”?
I know Mormons don’t want to hear that I was brainwashed but I must say it starts with the commericals and friendlyness then goes to the “I know this church is true”

Judging by what you have told us so far, the “demon” seems to have been there long before you had heard of Mormonism.

My thoughts are, “exorcism” might not be such a bad idea after all! I should go and talk to that priest if I were you.

This actually accounts for about two thirds of all Mormon baptisms. In Taiwan, some of the elders referred to looking up inactive members as “doing the babe circuit”.
