Peter Wright:
I have also read many articles there that are very uncharitable and dredge up derogatory stories about Abraham Lincoln…
Yes they do. But are they untrue? Again, many of the sites used here without any criticism are very uncharitable towards other American political leaders. When one holds a States Rights view, Lincoln is then naturally seen in a less than flattering way. I think the pieces are even more of a shock to those who only know the Lincoln myth through our (government) school system.

Ain’t that the truth.

Peter Wright:
Here is the looming thought. If you are going to reference ANYTHING that contradicts Catholic moral teaching, reconsider its use, regardless of the source. The only ones I would implicitly trust are from www.catholic.com (obviously) and www.vatican.va (again, obviously)
I might trust one, but not necessarily the other.

ChrisR246:
I read LewRockwell.com every day. They are libertarians, Austrian Economists and anarcho capitalists who subscribe to the ideals of natural law, self ownership and non agression. Certainly their ideas disturb the status quo, but they are consistent in their application of their philosophy.
There is an elderly lady in our church who will talk you ear off about how her daughter has ruined her life by “telling lies” about her.

She’s very consistent, too.

Not really…concidering its coming from lewrockwell.com
The site also features regular screeds about how Abraham Lincoln was a murderous war criminal, how the American military is a hotbed of criminal imperialism and murderous warmongering, and why Southern secession not only was honorable and noble but how it still is a viable option.

There are many constitutional scholars who would disagree with you, citing their opinion that secession is NOT prohibited by the constituiton and what Lincoln did (invading the south to “save” the union" was an un-Constitutional, illegal, and immoral act.

Baaaaaah. I found the single reason to discredit Lew Rockwell and anything published on that sight. Anyone who gives a positive review of anything written by Noam Chomski ain’t worth the electrons they ride on.

We Have Nothing to Fear but theFearmongers Themselves

Quote from the article:

“Chomsky maintains that it is primarily in free societies where propaganda is most useful and, in fact, needful. When a government cannot readily turn to the use of force to control its people, it must resort to more subtle means to influence their behavior.”

Of course, Chomski is not talking about Iraq or anywhere in the middle east, but right here in the USA. A typical Socialist Utopian Elitist, he thinks the average American is too stupid to make his/her own decisions. In this regard, I have to agree with Peter. Go to Lew Rockwells ridiculous website if you want, but I would take anything there with 2-3 grains of salt, and wash it down with a good dose of the Catechism.

Elaine's Cross:
The following link contains an article written by an Army veteran of Vietnam, Granada & Beirut. His father was KIA in Korea. His son, still in the army, has recently returned to the states after a year in Iraq. The son, an officer, had his term of service extended by the stop-loss provision.

I know the mom of a young man who has been in Iraq for 4 weeks (2nd time) and is now in the hospital in Germany with some pretty serious wounds. Your link reminds me of her. People will complain about your source but for many it’s really a matter of only wanting to hear the things that support their political position.

Elaine’s Cross - thank you for posting this.

I find it revealing that the war apologists have done nothing but trash lewrockwell.com while completely ignoring the content of the link.

For enlisted, no matter how many years you initially sign up for, you owe them at least 6. Wether it is active, reserve, or inactive ready reserve. Anyone know how it works for officers?

It’s eight years across the board, in any combination of active and reserve service. Officers on the initial tour are classed as OBV (Obligated Volunteers) because they have volunteered for a commission and thereby assumed the obligation.

The title says it all. liberals don’t support troops. remember discussions some time ago when some liberals(can’t remember exact names) said they support troops?
