A non-Catholic inquired about having the Roman Catholic Mass explained. He did not want to attend one.
What to do? Thank goodness there was a visual explanation. But how does one ask the gent about going to Mass and not seeming to be pushy?

I suggest to ask him to read "The Lamb’s Supper: The Mass As Heaven on Earth by Dr. Scott Hahn. It is a biblical explanation of the Mass.

Seems like you’ve answered your own question, if he didn’t want to attend one. Precious video, by the way.

Agreed. Very good read. A couple years back I combined a Bible Study of Revelations with The Lamb’s Supper. Came across well. Dr Hahn is a great writer, with, in my opinion, great explanations on what the Mass can mean to us.

Blessings,
Stephie

This is an excellent recommendation, especially since Dr. Hahn is a convert from Evangelical Christianity himself. 👍👍

From time-to-time, one may see a pair of well-dressed young men quietly seated in the rear of the Church during the mass. LDS missionaries, observing.

However, I suspect that your friend has heard the old lie about Catholics not being Christian, and of idol worship, etc. Old lies die hard.

“See for yourself” indeed!

The Catholic mass is a supposition that the eternal Word exist.

I love this book. My Fourth Day group studied it and I was amazed at every chapter. I like everything Dr. Hahn writes. However I’m not sure it is the best book for a non-Catholic with questions about the Mass. I would give a simple explanation of the order of the Mass and what it means for Catholics.

“What Happens at Mass” by Jeremy Driscoll, OSB. Truly excellent.

The only caveat is that although now-Abbot Driscoll is (or has been, since his new duties may have kept him from continuing in these positions) on the USCCB’s Bishops Committee on the Liturgy, the Vatican’s Vox Clara Commission for the Congregation for Divine Worship, a member of the Pontifical Academy of Theology, and a consultor to the Congregation for Divine Worship, the book has not been re-released in a new edition that reflects the new English translation of the Mass.
