Please, if I may ask… it it okay to watch the anime Dragonball, and its sequel-series? From this website… johnthewitness.wordpress.com/…dragon-ball-z/ it depicts the show being satanic, which I, honestly, had never thought any of these things when I originally watched the show years ago, nor did I even come to a conclusion.

Also, there are websites or videos on YouTube (which are often ones that lead to conspiracy theory videos…) that talk about the names of the different characters “Piccolo, Kami,” etcetera, being the names of demons or satanic in nature, and having subliminal messages about conspiracies. themacchoi.blogspot.com/2012/…ndertones.html And the attack moves being satanic, or something like that. (In an interview, the creator of the series, Akira Toriyama, said that he’d asked his wife for ideas and she actually came up with it by just doing a little pose. He’d liked it and decided to use it in the series) That’s the last link I’ll post by the way… Here’s the thing, I don’t let such conspiracies control my fear, and I’m pretty darn sure that the creator of the series hadn’t inserted such imagery… and that it was probably some dumb animators’ insertions… but it just stumps me.

They also mention it being not actually animated by a company called Toei but IN FACT being animated by a company called “Milk” in Asia that practices worship of the evil one. Me, personally, I found that a bit hard to believe… especially acknowledging Asia’s understanding of Christianity and all aspects involved of mankind and its salvation and the one who attempts to hold us from reaching such… but yeah. To have the “milk” thing talked about when referencing the anime and NOT the manga (if I remember right) confused me.

Also, the creator of the series was once (actually still might be (is registered as one on a Jehovah website)) said to be a Jehovah Witness… sooo yeah. The thing is, the series does have good morals… and that’s what I loved about it, as well as the characters. The main character fights through love and mercy and hates killing (there isn’t an ounce of evil in him throughout the series, he was essentially the “Christ-character” of the series. He even tried to get the most evil of characters in the show to apologize for all he’d done… and dies for the earth one time in the show because one of the bad guys was about to explode and he transported him to another planet and was caught in the explosion there. He also turns one of the most prideful characters into a more loving one, a father. The show definitely does not push immoral traits… but I don’t know, I’m just conflicted about the whole show. There’s a character Mr. Satan that has a daughter “Videl (rearrange the letters…)”, and he has a car with the numbers 666 on it (although apparently that was just a small insert in between half-time of the show, and was said that it might NOT have been drawn by the creator of the show… but I don’t know, and they say his name is actually stage name for him and that that’s just one of Japan’s “(unfortunate) parody’s” of the truths spoken of in Christianity, and that his real name is actually Mark. In one scene at the end of the series, Mr. Satan actually helps the main characters save the universe by defeating a purple monster that likes candy but is the most destructive being in that universe and the people of Earth were chanting “Mr. Satan”… naturally, that made me uncomfortable (which is why I always enjoyed the edited version…), but I also acknowledged that it was simply fiction and that Christianity often isn’t present in tv shows (especially ones from Asia)… but yeah.

They also have these things called “Dragon Balls” hence the title… that, if gathered together (there are 7) would summon a giant dragon called Shenron that would grant three wishes. Also, in the sequel series to Dragon Ball Z, there are seven “black star” dragon balls (evil ones that never showed up in the series before) that took form of practically the 7 deadly sins! (Which I found to be a symbol… especially with how good the good guy is, and how he sacrifices himself)

Honestly, remembering all that I do about the show and all the good things presented throughout it, I am just so conflicted about it. I LOVED the music from it, and the story… the characters, just everything. I did love it. There are so many good themes presented throughout, and it’s a show that was beloved to me when I was little (also, I watched the “edited” version where “Mr. Satan” was renamed Hercule). I just want to know if it’s okay to watch it. Would I unknowingly go to Hell for watching it? The thing is, I’m solid in my faith, I really am… so I’m just very confused on this issue. I do hope some people who have actually seen the show can answer this.

See, it’s just one of those “I want to be absolutely sure” situations. In reality, the positives ALWAYS outweigh the negatives… thus one could come to such a conclusion about the show, especially when it comes to a character like the main character, Goku… however, could it wreak havoc on the soul? Could it damn a person? Again, I am very strong in my faith and I know this is fiction, it could not hurt me faith in any way, truthfuly, but yes, please answer this question–if you will. I apologize for the long post.

Watch it. It puts no risk to your soul. I watched it quite a bit myself when I was younger.

For such a long post, I’ll answer “yes.” Watch it if you want. 😉

DBZ is about as satanic as a Disney cartoon, it has lots of fantasy and violence but i highly doubt if you watch it you will become evil.

I love the cartoon myself it still makes me cry lol.

DBZ’s worst crime is having horrible, horrible pacing. After sitting through fifteen episodes of absolutely nothing, you may be treated to a scene where planets blow up.

It’s not satanic in the least.

My favorite character was Piccolo. If he hadn’t been so awesome, I might have been able to avoid sitting through 200 episodes. I never did finish it, which is probably for the best. 😛

I have watched every episode.

Its fine 👍

Its a show with good morals. Especially when compared to most shows.

I’ve seen all of it in Middle and High School :o I’ll say that it doesn’t seem to have anything intrinsically wrong. Of course, we can always make everything look bad if we try hard enough, especially a cartoon based on an imaginary world with magic and aliens :o

Now, instead I am seriously concerned about that blog you quote and the fact that you would be paying attention to someone who says:
I was called by Yeshua in July of 2011. I believe this to be the start of the tribulation. I don’t want to sound proud of boastful, but I am quite certain that I am one of the witnesses of Revelation (John the Baptist).
Seriously? The blogger witness? No personal attack intended, but I think such sources of info should be avoided.

In general a formed conscience can discern when something is blasphemous or spiritually unhealthy. Some (a lot of) modern movies, tv shows, and music certainly is. Start with that and your guardian angel will rejoice.

Hey Truchsess,

I’ve never seen the show, which could be because I’m a kinda old guy. But I clicked on your links and went to some websites that I don’t think are innocent at all. So I’m going to disagree with the other answers and I’d tell you not to watch it. They were talking about the Illuminati, and I know many people don’t believe they are real, but I do. Actually, that’s exactly what the Illuminati want. They don’t want us to believe they’re real. I believe you actually have pretty good discernment to realize what you have.

As I said, I’ve been around a good long time. When I was a kid there were other kinds of things that I loved, and I got a little older I started to see some other force at work besides popularity. Like you, I didn’t want to believe the power of Satan was behind the immense popularity of these shows, characters, and music. But as I got older I watched as our world became more evil, and I knew my beloved childhood friends had played a role in what was happening. The adults from before me were saying this stuff I loved was Satanic, but I still refused to believe it. But they were right and I was wrong. By the time I was in my 20’s these characters, and the music, had become so bold that they stopped hiding their connections to Satan. In fact that was 1 way Satan got almost a whole generation of people to believe he isn’t real anyway. So why shouldn’t we all have “Sympathy for the Devil”? He’s not real, right? Wrong. He even had his song admit that he was there when Jesus suffered for us. But so many people loved the music they totally lost sight of the fact they were being brainwashed.

So you’re saying this show Dragon Ball Z is one of Satan’s new ways to work his evil schemes, and I say you’re right on.

About your concerns. Yes, it can wreak havoc with your soul, but it can’t damn your soul. Since you are a Christian/Catholic all Satan can do to you is what you allow him to do. Mostly he makes suggestions but you don’t have to do them. I can see this show already has you in some turmoil. So I’d say stop watching it. Try that, and see if you feel an addiction to the show? I have a feeling you will. If so, stay away from it until the pull stops. In time it will. If you ever want to watch it again, you can, but always keep in mind there’s an evil force in the show. This is what I’ve had to do with my beloved childhood heroes who are now in the movies. I’ll watch them, unless Satan is being portrayed by an actor. Then I won’t watch it because I refuse to honor that devil, who I know is very real.

You actually have great spiritual discernment Truchsess. You will be alright, and maybe a leader someday.

May God continue to Bless you always.

Well, see, I didn’t actually read the whole article… I sort of just skimmed over it all. I assumed that he was probably not quite a trustworthy source, but alas, I felt the need to bring it up just as a source of what people might’ve been saying about it.

See, my concern was this… I just don’t want to go to Hell. I had read the topic “23 Hours Dead” - Angelica Zambrano shown visions of Heaven and Hell" on here " forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=578949&highlight=angelica+zambrano and " and while I do NOT believe her vision came from a righteous source, if anything at all, I TRULY do not believe her vision, especially when she mentioned Mary not being able to intercede, or blessed Pope John Paul II being in Hell. I trust the saints far more than some person whose faith isn’t even in line with ours in regards to attributes. But all I had was a growing curiosity when she said that kids had gone to Hell for watching shows like Dragon Ball or other shows. I can’t say enough how much I don’t believe in the vision, but I couldn’t help but wonder IF IT WAS POSSIBLE for someone to unconsciously walk towards Hell in such a way? If unconsciously at all? Just a question, it’s not giving her credibility.

To Geo17,

I don’t watch the show anymore, I haven’t in years, but I recall memories from it as a kid and some of them were good memories–really. I do know about the group and I do acknowledge that you money can get you anything in this world excluding all the necessary and vital GOOD things of this existence, money can only bring suffering if embraced like they’ve done it. That group could basically exemplify the fact that money can buy you everything except happiness, joy, contentment, love, mercy, charity, and all other traits and gifts (virtues) to this existence akin.

I know very well of the enemy’s existence (I mean, I did make the topic regarding the creature’s possible deceitful ways using the show, and the show could not strip me of the acknowledgement of us unfortunate existence), but when I consider the show, fiction can’t hamper my faith. We all have fights with our faith at times, but mere human creations cannot hamper it for me, as I can see the bigger picture through our beautiful church and through Christ. My faith has reached a point where it is such a gift to me.

I just don’t want to unconsciously walk toward Hell. It’s just, I do recall the good things of the show, the music, the characters, etc. and can’t help but miss the show, the story, the action, etc. I just love stories where I can emotionally connect with the characters.

I look at every piece of fiction symbolically, and to that end, I relate them in a way to the limited knowledge we have of this existence, Praise Be to God. When I find mercy shown in certain ways, especially in the show, it actually almost ENHANCES my faith, even in the slightest (which if that’s possible, it must anger the enemy)… it makes me smile when I see love embraced, mercy, just good attributes… and that is a lot of what was promoted by the main character in the show.

I would view this show as a very strong Catholic, and for sure it can’t hurt my faith. I mean, as the enemy uses the things of this world, our creations, so can God, the Holy Spirit also use these things to negate such actions.

I’ll say this one last time, I just don’t want to be unconsciously walking toward hell if I chose to watch it again. My faith could not be hampered, I love God far too much and have fought my own darkness far too long to become blind.

DBZ isn’t a new show. It’s twenty years old, and the show it’s a sequel to came out in 1986. It’s a bad show- in the sense that the plot is monotonous, the characters are often heroic but also pretty bland, and the pacing is awful. However, there’s no reason to suspect that it’s satanic. It’s simply an action show about aliens who fight other aliens in an attempt to save the world, again and again and again. Even then, it has its moments. I cheered when Piccolo yelled at Goku for giving Cell their last senzu bean and forcing Gohan to fight. There was power in that scene. I’ll even say that Goku’s subsequent sacrifice was powerful. 98% of the time, though, Dragon Ball Z was mediocre to bad. (In my opinion- I mean, I couldn’t have hated it too much, since I did watch around 200 episodes.)

If you feel any sort of “addiction” to the show, it’s because you’re experiencing Piccolo withdrawal. 😛

In all seriousness: I absolutely do believe that the devil is using modern media to tempt and confuse people, but you’re barking up the wrong tree by targeting Dragon Ball like this. I think DBZ is a bad show compared to a lot of others, and I never reccommend it to anybody, but I simply don’t think it’s satanic. What evidence do you have that it’s anything of the sort, except that it’s popular and has a minor character named Hercule Satan in it?

Thinking about the stories you hear and practicing discernment doesn’t mean calling everything popular a tool of Satan. It means thinking. You’re not going to go to hell for watching children’s cartoons and honestly examining the good and bad parts of them.

Besides the extreme violence and certain aspects of “witchcraft” like powers, as long as you are aware that it’s absolute fantasy you’ll be fine. What happens in the episodes draws a clear line between fantasy and reality. A good thing about DBZ is that the the themes of friendship, good work ethic, family, honesty and duty play a strong role in the main protagonist. The most it’s done, in terms of “bringing it to life,” is the fans turning to cosplay and maybe have their turn at writing fanfiction.

I’ll say this one last time, I just don’t want to be unconsciously walking toward hell if I chose to watch it again. My faith could not be hampered, I love God far too much and have fought my own darkness far too long to become blind.
This is what I would ask myself, for any show, movie, book, game, song, or other thing I wanted to watch/read/play:
  1. Is the work of fiction pornographic or otherwise exploitative?
Truchsess’s answer for DBZ: No.
  1. Is the work of fiction a near occasion of sin for me- does it tempt me to lust, be slothful, buy exorbitant amounts of merchandise, etc.?
Truchsess’s answer for DBZ: No.
  1. Does this work of fiction bring me closer to God, or further away from him?
Truchsess’s answer for DBZ: You haven’t said. Something like DBZ could easily go either way.
  1. Is this work of fiction the sort of thing I want to support and see more of? Am I comfortable financially supporting the creators, either by watching the show on TV or buying a copy of the work?
Truchsess’s answer for DBZ: Again, you haven’t said.
  1. Is this work of fiction the sort of thing I want to fill my head with? Do I think that watching/reading/playing it improves me in some way, and/or is a form of wholesome relaxation?
Truchsess’s answer for DBZ: Yes.

Did you answer no, no, closer, yes, yes? Congratulations, you should partake in this work of fiction.

You could probably limit it to just the third question if you really wanted to, but I think the other questions cover some specific common problems. The point is, if a show is good for you and bringing you closer to God, then you are not sinning or “unconsciously walking towards hell” by watching it.

NOTE: I just made this list up, so if anyone wants to clarify, dispute, or add a point, you guys can go ahead and improve it. 🙂

Well, see, I didn’t actually read the whole article… I sort of just skimmed over it all. I assumed that he was probably not quite a trustworthy source, but alas, I felt the need to bring it up just as a source of what people might’ve been saying about it.
Understood.
See, my concern was this… I just don’t want to go to Hell. …]all I had was a growing curiosity when she said that kids had gone to Hell for watching shows
I just want to go to heaven 🙂 Don’t worry, you cannot end in that state of total eternal rejection of God, unless you chose to. Keep fighting the good fight and don’t worry about hell, only about doing God’s will, and all will be fine. And that fear (which is always from the spirit against Christ) is the evidence that you must stay away from such sources. You have the Gospels and Holy Mother Church, what else could you need to inform yourself about the things above? 🙂
I just don’t want to unconsciously walk toward Hell.
That could never happen. Christ is not called God our Savior for no reason 😉 Everyone gets the chance to make the choice with full knowledge and deliberate consent, and - this is a great mystery - nobody in hell does not wish to be there. The damned souls are unrepentant. Nobody ends there unaware, unconsciously, by accident.
It’s just, I do recall the good things of the show, the music, the characters, etc. and can’t help but miss the show, the story, the action, etc. I just love stories where I can emotionally connect with the characters.
The Italian version of the entrance song of GT and Z were very inspiring. Of course, seen from the side of the half-full glass. Otherwise, it’s easy to criticize them.
I know that we can become special, therefore I will try!
How many heros, brave and loyal, are fighting on our behalf!
Willpower, he who has it, is the strongest of strongest
nothing will put him to stop
if he wants
he can change the fate of this humanity.
Who are you?
Goku, you don’t know.
However, soon you will find out, and then
you will go away.
You’ll go in the immensity
over there, against darkness
until everything has changed.
With you darkness will become full of light
because
your light is by now
more bright than ever!
All of that was very positive, very full of hope, clearly showing a character of good fighting against evil forces, of light prevailing over darkness, and of a hero willing to lay down his life for his loved ones. You also have the family scenes which show some good values. You see some characters become better individuals, more generous. Those who don’t never win, even when they are strongest. Violence is kept to a minimum, I mean, compared to other cartoons of the kind, besides martial arts (which are an art, not like some modern brutal fighting styles). Magic is kept to a bare minimum, and in GT the exaggerated use of the dragon leads to disaster, teaching a good lesson compared to Z where everything seemed solvable through some good “magic”…! So truly, I think it was a good cartoon compared to many others I saw on tv, and to many I see today.

So don’t worry! Our Lord is not a punisher, but a just judge and even more, a merciful savior who asks God to forgive even sinners when they don’t know what they are doing 👍

The only thing wrong with DBZ is that it is a plot-hole. Granted it does have its moments but I have watched the entire show so far and nothing has ever come off as evil or demonic about it. Watch it in good health

I’ve never watched or read Dragon Ball before, but the people who say Dragon Ball is Satanic are probably the same people that are saying Pikachu and Jigglypuff are symbolic of demons, and that Harry Potter directly influences children to practice the black-arts.

In other words… go ahead and watch it.

Personally, the only thing I’m thankful for is that Toriyama disagreed with his first editor to make Dragon Ball into a romantic comedy. 😃 Come to think of it, making the whole series (which ran every week for more than ten years - from 1984 to 1995) really wore him out.

I’ll be honest: I liked Dragon Ball better when it was still about trying to search for these wish-granting balls. When it became too preoccupied with power-ups and stuff…🤷 So yeah, I’ll admit that I liked it up to the Freeza saga (or possibly the Cell arc). Around the Majinbuu arc…ugh.

P.S. Watching that live-action abomination might not be a sin, but for me it might as well be. Seriously, the only good thing about it IMHO was Piccolo. 😃

The only thing truly wrong about Dragonball Z is that it’s highly overrated. Seriously. It’s not the worst anime in the world, but it ain’t Miyazaki, either.

Of Toriyama’s works, I used to like Doctor Slump better, but it’s a bit too ecchi for me to recommend now with a clear conscience.
