Please name the denoms that are pro-choice..

I think the thing that has changed in the last 20-30 years is that an out-of-wedlock pregnancy is not given the same double-standard as it once was. I cannot speak for Catholic Churches, but I know that Protestant Churches were quick to condemn out-of-wedlock pregnancies, AND didn’t want to help such mothers out monetarily or with moral support. Just “send her off to Aunt Susie’s or a ‘home’ - whatever! - just take care of it and spare us the discomfort!!!” was the prevailing attitude then. I think that day has changed, and so have attitudes.

Abortion on demand is a premeditated murder. And the instances where a mother’s life is truly at risk are very few and far between. There should be very few reasons to ever have one.
 
O.S. Luke, I understand what you are saying. I had a very hard time swallowing the firing of an unwed pregnant mom, Michelle McCusker from her position as a school teacher at a Catholic school. I have children that attend Catholic school and probably would be pulling them out if the firing occurred at their school.

I recently became involved with a group called the Jewish Renewal Movement…they were founded by a Chasidic rabbi who felt Jews needed a more vibrant, personal worship experience, and as a way to develop a more personal relationship with God. Because this movement is open to all Jews (Orthodox, Conservative and Reform), I’m not sure of their stands on issues such as abortion, and would like to find out.

I spoke to one member, who told me they really don’t take positions on issues like that (though they do take a stand on helping the environment.)

I’m going to try to find out if they do have a stand, because their worship service is very uplifting and moving, and with the singing, dancing and handclapping, it reminded me of the “messianic” services I’d gone into undercover years ago, but of course, this group does not believe in Jesus because they are Jewish.
 
Yeah… On one hand, firing a pregnant woman because her pregnancy happened out of wedlock seems cruel, yet one doesn’t want to leave the impression that it’s all right when it’s not… It’s a complicated world!!!
 
I was drawn to catholicism because it was a beacon in the pro-life cause. I was living a life of dissipation and had many friends that had abortions. There was only one institution I knew of that said abortion was wrong. My attraction to the church through the nascent promptings of the Holy Spirit were through the church’s stance on abortion.
