I’ve been feeling far away from God right now because I’ve not received Holy Communion for a few weeks now. I need to go to confession, even though I don’t think I’ve committed any mortal sins; my reasoning is that I desire to be in a state of Grace and thus be pure in order to receive Jesus worthily. But I feel I’m unable to pray much without the graces that come from the Sacrament of Holy Communion. I try, but I can’t seem to foster a devotion to a pious prayer habit or even just use conversational prayer as often as I’d like.
I’ve also felt very lost because there are many lay Catholic voices that are all over the Internet, and it seems they have divided themselves into two factions over the rituals, tradition, and practices of the Church. One side seems to make a valid argument, but then the other side comes back and rebuts it with some solid evidence to support their argument. Sometimes I don’t know who to believe, since both sides use Vatican documents to back up what they’re arguing. At times it makes me physically ill or hurt, almost as if I’m feeling what Jesus must feel when His Body, the Church, is so divided like this. My heart actually felt torn when another Catholic claimed to have “more faith” than many members of the Church, whether clergy or laypeople. It made me question whether or not I was truly a Catholic anymore, even though I was born, baptized, and raised in the faith.
Please, I ask that you pray for me that I might see and understand more clearly about what the Church has taught on various traditions, disciplines, and rituals, and that I realize yes, I am still a Catholic because I hold what the Church teaches to be true. I am praying (or at least trying) that I can get to confession soon, because I’m not doing so great at avoiding some sins without the grace from the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Those two sacraments have, at least of late, gone hand-in-hand for me.
Thank you in advance for your support.
