Please find this bishop - alive, safe, well and unharmed. May his captors find mercy in their hearts for the religious - and all. And if this Bishop is not found, may God welcome him quickly to his Heavenly reward.

Dear God -
Please watch over all those in war-torn countries - those we do not hear or think about as we go about our daily tasks. Watch over those sent to fight for, guard and protect them. Amen.

Source of all Mercy, look with Divine love upon Rami, Faris and Sameer, faithful servants whose lives were required of them so that Your Heavenly purpose is accomplished. You gave them life, and You alone, Loving Creator, called them home. They have not died in vain O Lord, for You, all powerful and Eternal God, will reward them for laying their lives down in the name of Your plan for mankind. May hardened hearts be softened and souls obtained for Your Kingdom through this gracious work of Your Hand. Lord, send Your Spirit of healing and strength upon their families and loved ones, that they may celebrate the gift that the lives of Rami, Faris and Sameer have been, and now ever will be in Your land of Paradise, prepared for us out of love. May this tragic event, confusing and concerning to frail mankind, be graciously revealed to us, in the fullness of time, as the blessed work of Your Divine Will. The Archbishop is in fragile health and needs regular medication. I trust that the Lord, who has sent the most effective witness to the love of Christ, is speaking to and converting hearts in the course of this ordeal. May the Archbishop turn to the Lord in fervent prayer to receive the strength, both of body and of spirit, to be a faithful witness to hardened hearts.

Clergyman’s captors raise demand to $2.5 million, add ‘impossible’ conditions.

ISTANBUL, March 6 **(Compass Direct News) – Kidnappers have set today as the ransom deadline for the release of an Iraqi Archbishop abducted last week, a church leader said.

The unidentified captors also added new conditions for the release of Archbishop Paulus Faraj Rahho, said Kirkuk Chaldean Archbishop Luis Sako. He declined to give further details in the interest of Rahho’s safety.

A church source close to the negotiations described the new conditions to Compass as “impossible to fulfill,” requiring Iraq’s Christians to carry out violent acts and actively support a particular political agenda. He said that the ransom sum had been raised to $2.5 million.

The extravagant nature of the kidnappers’ demands appears to indicate that their motives are political and religious, rather than only financial.

Sako said that church leaders negotiating with the kidnappers had yet to hear Archbishop Rahho’s voice on the telephone, creating doubt as to whether he is still alive. Kidnappers in Iraq have at times murdered Christian priests even after taking a ransom payment for their release.
