That was good advice - As St. James the Apostle said:
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

Please, also remind Maggie to follow the advice of her physicians. I know we like to make wisecracks about Mark 5:25-2 – “And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.” (Mk 5:25-26 NIV).
Remember. St. Paul the Apostle had St. Luke as his own personal physician, and I’m sure St. Paul’s advice to St. Timothy about drinking “a little wine to settle your stomach” came from St. Luke… A good doctor can be a Godsend, exp. if we follow his/her orders. I remember three who were just that (each saved my life in his own way) when I had my Acoustic Tumor.
Tell Maggie to also get someone to help her work through the Bureaucracy to get whatever treatment she needs. HMO’s and Government Health-care Systems both have their own sets of problems and hurdles. I’ve dealt with those posed by an HMO on several different occasions… I’m not nearly as familiar with Government Systems, but I do know having a “Advocate” who knows something about Medicine and something about how to deal with a bureaucracy will really help someone, esp. in a situation such as Maggie’s in now…
