I have been debating with many atheists on another website, and they have been easily discrediting everything I have said for proof there is a God. I have looked into darwin’s writings and evidences for evolution and have looked at things dissaproving miracles, “proof” Jesus never existed, and things regarding the “true origin” of the Bible. I am starting to question my beleifs, and am slowly turning agnostic. I do not want to tstop beleieving in Jesus, I do not want to stop beleiving in God, but for some reason I just am starting to drift away no matter how much i do to strengthen my faith. I would like to ask you all to pray for me that my faith in God made be strengthend. Also, if you can find anything that would strengthen my faith, please do.

Chaz,

One of the most powerful prayers I have found for your situation is, “I believe, Lord help my unbelief”.

I will pray for you, but I most especially encourage you to pray for faith, like you have never prayed before.

You may want to see if your local parish is holding any bible studies or other faith building activities. You may also want to get involved in a ministry through the parish.

I encourage you to consider reducing the amount of time you spend with non-believers, and that especially means other forums where your currently weakened faith is being challenged. It may be that you were starting to get through to certain individuals there, so the Devil had to attack you as hard and fast as possible. But know that God always uses the Bad that occurs to create a greater good. Perhaps that good is what you will find in a Parish activity. You may just find that there is someone right inside your own parish who’s faith is wavering and that through seeing how you are addressing your own weakened faith, they may be shored up, and you may begin to see glimmers of God’s great plan.

Who knows, anything can happen when we trust in God.

You are in my prayers,

CARose

If evolution is true, then would that disprove the existence of God??
and have looked at things dissaproving miracles
How can you disprove a miracle? Perhaps you can question its authenticity, but (unless the miraculous claims are obviously empirically verifiable – like if someone said the earth turned into green cheese yesterday) it would seem impossible to completely disprove it.
“proof” Jesus never existed
Another version of claiming to prove the miracles didn’t happen.
and things regarding the “true origin” of the Bible.
God works (and writes) in mysterious (and mundane) ways.
I am starting to question my beleifs, and am slowly turning agnostic.
At least you’re keeping an open mind.🙂

Ponder these questions: why does any thing exist at all??? Why is there something instead of nothing??? Why do you exist? Why were you born here, in America, and not in China, or Australia?

A favorite saying from the recovering alcoholics – ***If you don’t want to slip – stay away from slippery places. ***

Don’t argue with the atheists. They may make you doubt, but Satan just loves put doubt in our hearts.

Have you read C.S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters? It is worth a read. I understand that Mr. Keating likes to read the book anually. I found it most revealing of the human heart tha desires to corrupt our faith.

Just leave the atheists to themselves and focus on the simple prayer offered above.

Also, you can pray for the aid of St. Michael the Archangel – “Quis ut Deus?” indeed – who is as God?!

You can gain much aid from Good Saint Michael in battling the enemy. I can speak from personal experience.

Pray, pray, pray and just visit good Holy websites.

Thank you both. My name is Corey if any one wants to say a roasary for me, it would really make me happy. Know that if you did then you helped a teen boy recover his faith.

It may be a couple of days, but I will!

I’ll pray a Rosary for you! (tonight)

I agree about staying out of the debates with atheists for a while, at least until your own faith is on firmer footing. I’ve also had many dealings with atheists, and many of them can be really close-minded when it comes to God, and anything having to do with religion. The phrase “there is none so blind as he who will not see” comes to mind.

I’ll be praying for you!

Blessed are those who have not seen, yet have believed.

How the heck do they disprove miracles? There was a thread a while back called something like “Do you believe in miracles?” Read some of those. There was one about a cup being refilled with Precious Blood. It simply amazed me. Don’t forget apparitions. The children of Fatima were tortured or threatened torture, I forget, yet would not say what they saw wasn’t real. They had real predictions come true-Jacinta and Francisco dieing soon, and Lucy living a while, she also predicted WWII under the reign of Pope Pius XII. There was also the Miracle of the Sun, which was seen by 70,000 people, including atheists. How could they disprove Jesus existed? Theres plenty of writing confirming he existed, non-Biblical.

I agree. Pray, and wait to engage atheists until you are staunch in your faith, and with good arguments.

Chasemataz,

Prayers are on the way.

You need to realize that the people you are debating are probably better acquainted with the arguments than you are. Their debating skills may also be superior to yours. This makes them seem persuasive, but it in no way means that they are right.

I would suggest you get a copy two of Peter Kreeft’s books. The one’s I would recommend are The Handbook of Christian Apologetics and Christianity For Modern Pagans. These books will cover all of the arguments and show the weaknesses of the other side. This is not easy or light reading. These are powerful books with penetrating analysis and logic. They will reveal and dispel all of the logical fallacies contained in the atheist’s arsenal. Not only that, they will show all of the reasons for believing.

No matter what you do, never stop praying. Open every door and window to your heart, mind, and soul to the Holy Spirit and to the will of God. You will have your fellow Catholics that read this thread praying for you and you can take solace in knowing that you are not without help in this battle.

Thank you all of you. I will pray a roasry tonight too. It is people such as yoruselfs who make it a joy to be Christian.

What is atheism offering?

You might want to read one atheist turned Catholic’s testimony called “Exodus from Atheism”:

If it’s Darwinism in particular that concerns you, read this on the Church and evolution:

catholic.net/rcc/Periodicals/Issues/Darwin.html

Excerpts:

The Catholic Church has never had a problem with “evolution” (as opposed to philosophical Darwinism, which sees man solely as the product of materialist forces). Unlike Luther and Calvin and modem fundamentalists, the Church has never taught that the first chapter of Genesis is meant to teach science.

Pius XII correctly pointed out in the encyclical *Humani Generis *(1950) that the theory of evolution had not been completely proved, but he did not forbid

that the theory of evolution concerning the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter-for Catholic faith obliges us to hold that human souls are immediately created by God-be investigated and discussed by experts as far as the present state of human science and sacred theology allows (no. 36).

The Church insists that man is not an accident; that no matter how He went about creating *Homo sapiens, *God from all eternity intended that man and all creation exist in their present form. Catholics are not obliged to square scientific data with the early verses of Genesis, whose truths-and they are truths, not myths-are expressed in an archaic, pre-scientific Hebrew idiom; and they can look forward with enjoyment and confidence to modem scientific discoveries which, more often than not, raise fundamental questions which science itself cannot answer.

Dear Corey,

I’ll pray too. I’ll reiterate what many other posters have said; **avoid these people and situations that are causing you grief. **
Its really that simple. Think of this as a battle. You’ve been “wounded”, but you’re far from “dead”. You need to take yourself off the frontline, move to the rear and recover.

We’d really hate to lose you!

God bless you.

I want you to get a copy of “Peace of Soul” by The Venerable Arch Bishop Fulton J.Sheen, and stop talking to these people and pray for them.

P.S. Got the Mario Smash Brothers for my kids - huge hit! Thanks!
As a Nintendo fanboy, it is my duty to say, its *Super Smash Brothers, if its for the Nintendo 64, and Super Smash Brothers Melee *if its for the Gamecube. Sorry, but I signed an oath of unwavering loyalty to Nintendo when I first picked up a controller when I was 4.

Proud to serve, proud to play.

Now back to your regularly sceduled programming.

Goodnight everybody. I am too tired to pray a roasry, so i will tommorrow. God Bless all of you. :angel1:
