I have been suffering from depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and anxiety for most of my life. I have a wonderful wife and two small daughters. Last year I was becoming more and more frustrated and desperate in my condition because I wanted to stop being a burden for my family. I took medications even though I had known well at that point that meds can’t solve the problem. That was the first mistake. The meds weren’t helping and I stopped taking them cold turkey. This resulted in ever worsening insomnia. I became obsessed with falling asleep and started occasionally taking a drug belonging to one the most addictive class of drugs in the world. That was the third mistake - I had known about these drugs specifically and thought I was playing it safe by not taking them regularly. As it turns out, the dosage was too high and I am now in serious withdrawal from them in addition to my original problems and insomnia. I read that there is no quick fix - that I will most likely have to reinstate these meds and taper off very slowly for many, many months with no real chance of these horrible symptoms subsiding in the foreseeable future. I don’t know, maybe I don’t need to be writing all of this but I did need to get it out. Please pray for me, for my recovery and for God to give me the chance to be the father and husband that I so desperately wanted.
