I have been suffering from depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and anxiety for most of my life. I have a wonderful wife and two small daughters. Last year I was becoming more and more frustrated and desperate in my condition because I wanted to stop being a burden for my family. I took medications even though I had known well at that point that meds can’t solve the problem. That was the first mistake. The meds weren’t helping and I stopped taking them cold turkey. This resulted in ever worsening insomnia. I became obsessed with falling asleep and started occasionally taking a drug belonging to one the most addictive class of drugs in the world. That was the third mistake - I had known about these drugs specifically and thought I was playing it safe by not taking them regularly. As it turns out, the dosage was too high and I am now in serious withdrawal from them in addition to my original problems and insomnia. I read that there is no quick fix - that I will most likely have to reinstate these meds and taper off very slowly for many, many months with no real chance of these horrible symptoms subsiding in the foreseeable future. I don’t know, maybe I don’t need to be writing all of this but I did need to get it out. Please pray for me, for my recovery and for God to give me the chance to be the father and husband that I so desperately wanted.

Lord, our God, you graciously chose Saint Dympna as patroness of those afflicted with mental and nervous disorders. She is thus an inspiration and a symbol of charity to the thousands who ask her intercession.

Please grant, Lord, through the prayers of this pure youthful martyr, relief and consolation to all suffering such trials, and especially those for whom we pray, Matt.

We beg you, Lord, to hear the prayers of Saint Dympna on our behalf. Grant all those for whom we pray, especially Matt, patience in their sufferings and resignation to your divine will. Please fill them with hope, and grant them the relief and cure they so much desire. We ask this through Christ our Lord who suffered agony in the garden. Amen.

I will pray for you…
Keep your faith in God and His Church!

Dan

Hi Matt I am so sorry for your suffering.There are many of us here who have and still are suffering panic attacks/anxiety/depression/OCD & many other mental health issues…you are not alone.I pray for God to heal you and that you will get the help you need to overcome and enjoy your life.Have you talked to your priest? If not a good place to start.God bless

O God, your Son accepted our sufferings to teach us the virtue of patience in human illness. Hear the prayers we offer for our sick brothers and sisters. May all who suffer pain, illness or disease realize that they are chosen to be saints, and know that they are joined to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.Pray throughout the day and talk to God.He will help you have confidence in Him.God bless

Prayer of Confidence to St. Anthony
Most holy St. Anthony, Beloved Friend of Jesus, I place Matt in your heavenly care. Be with him, especially in life’s troubles and difficulties. Intercede before the Lord for him, so that he may confidently know he does not face his problems alone.

I join my prayers to yours, O Great Saint, as I ask God to give Matt consolation in times of sorrow, courage when he is afraid, and healing from all the ills that afflict him.

Obtain for him from God, Most High, the grace to accept whatever is God’s holy will for him and his loved ones. Strengthen his faith so that he will never despair, but always have hope in God’s healing presence and power in his life. Amen

A Novena Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Sacred Heart of Jesus, we know that there is but one thing impossible to You: to be without pity for those who are in suffering or distress. Look down on us, we beg of You and grant us the grace which we humbly and earnestly implore, through the Immaculate Heart of Your most sorrowful Mother to whom You confided us as her children, and whose prayers are all powerful with You. Amen.

Divine Mercy
Eternal God,
in whom mercy is endless
and the treasury of compassion
  • inexhaustible,
    look kindly upon us
    and increase Your mercy in us,
    that in difficult moments
    we might not despair
    nor become despondent,
    but with great confidence
    submit ourselves to Your holy will,
    which is Love and Mercy itself.
    Amen

Thanks to everyone for your prayers. I am going to receive the Eucharist today. God will save me today.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

AMEN!!!

Praying for you to see a doctor to help you cope with your mental illness as well, so that you can be sure that you are taking the necessary and correct medications for your illness and get the proper rest …

Again, thanks to everyone for your prayers. I hope I’ll be strong and be able to forgive myself for this pointless downward spiral of mistakes made in desperation. I’m trying to avoid suicidal thoughts.

Dear Matt you are special to God, you are His child just as I am.Please remember you are precious, each one of us are to God Our Father.Please try not to be so hard on yourself.God loves you and He forgives us our sins when we are truly repentent…God knows what we really feel in our hearts and minds. We are all sinners,none of us are without sin.Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers…you are special to God and to us God bless xx

O Lord and Giver of Life, may we all recognize the great value of the life you have given to each one of us. But look in a special way on those who no longer find any meaning in the life they are leading.
You can see every movement of the human heart and you know what depths of despair, discouragement, frustration, loneliness, or self-hate have led them to the edge they are standing on.
Have mercy on them and open their eyes to see that the road has not ended. Fill their hearts with new hope. Place people in their lives who will love them with your own love, and who will give them a reason to live again. Make them know that they are worthwhile and needed.
And Lord, if you wish to use me as your instrument in touching someone, feel free to do so. Amen.

For Special Intentions
Almighty and loving Father, I thank you for giving St. Gerard to us as a most appealing model and powerful friend. By his example, he showed us how to love and trust you. You have showered many blessings on those who call upon him. For your greater glory and Matt’s welfare, please grant me the favors which I ask in his name.

(For Matt to feel God’s love for him and move forward with his life with peace)

And you, my powerful patron, intercede for this family before the throne of God. Draw near to that throne and do not leave it until you have been heard. O good saint, to you I address my feverent prayers; graciously accept them and let me experience in some way the effects of your powerful intercession. Amen.
