I’m really sorry! I hope you realize though, that while each partner believes the problem in a marriage is 80% the fault of the other, most often they will realize years later that it really was 50/50.
Divorce, while appearing to be an easy way out, can be really hard on families and destroy a lot of closeness even between siblings, who may become competitive against one another as well as develop a fear of “close attachment” later in life. This in turn is likely to affect their marriages and possibly even the stability of their children.
If you feel your spouse is chiefly at fault, I hope that before making the decision you personally seek counseling to ensure that you haven’t subconsciously been an “enabler.”
The state you and your husband are in is extremely painful for both. Nothing is more lonely than being married without connection.
In the event that you are still clearly aware that things won’t work even after the counseling because the love has fizzled to the point it can no longer be revived, you still need BOTH need counseling to ensure you don’t tear each other to shreds in the divorce process and afterward. Believe it or not, it is often possible to have a peaceful divorce if no other solution can be found.
Keep in mind that no marriage is perfect. Often marriages will break up because one partner has truly unreasonable expectations of the other. There are times in even some of the best marriages where one partner will truly loathe the other for awhile. For the great majority of people, life is anything but a Harlequin romance.
After riding an emotional roller coaster for the past 5 years, I can not seem to bear it any longer. I have decided on a separation. I have prayed, read books, asked for andvice on Catholic radio, and have even spoken to a Priest. The only posible alternative i have come up with is a separation. My husband has hurt me so much (went as far as an affair) that I can not seem to trust him.
I ask for your prayers, that God lead us to his Will. I do not want to hurt and feel it is wrong that i hurt my husband with guilt.
Please pray for my family.
