I will try not to make this long but I am terribly discouraged this morning. I have considered myself Protestant until the past few months. My adult daughter and her husband began RCIA classes in September. She shared extensively with me what she was learning in her classes until the point that I began questioning my own beliefs. I have not been to a Protestant church since December and have been regularly attending mass. I have an EXTREMELY ABNORMALLY active 2 year old. The pediatrician has confirmed this as well as other professionals - it is not just my perception. The parish that I have attended that is closest to my home has no nursery or cry room. The also offer no classes for my 4 year old. The five times I went to mass there was a horrible experience for all of us due to my 2 yo behavior. I left the parish Saturday before last in tears. I will not describe her behavior but suffice it to say that she disturbed everyone around us.
I homeschool my 4 year old who is advanced and is currently doing K5 cirriculum and will be ready for 1st Grade next school year. I contacted the local Catholic homeschool program who stated that I could not enroll my child unless I was Catholic due to a diocese rule. Since I must apply for an annulment for a previous marriage this could be years down the road. This door appears closed to me.
My husband is not at all supportive. He has attended church sporadically with me at the Protestant church. Since January, I have a HUGE thirst to read everything I can find regarding Catholicism and to learn everything that I can. I know that God has led me to the Catholic church without a doubt. I have already taught my 4 yo to recite the Our Father and Hail Mary. I have been watching EWTN at every opportunity. In this I am finding peace and am drawing closer to God. I know that Satan is trying to attack and discourage me. My husband has refused to go to mass with me. He knows nothing about the Catholic church but is being judgmental and says he “does not like it”. I have asked him if he would like to go but am not and will not attempt to force religion on him. If he comes home and I am watching EWTN he will automatically reach for the remote control and change the channel. This morning on the phone he was once again ridiculing me and actually said to me, “you are obsessed with the *amn Catholic church and I am tired of it”. I could not believe that he said that to me. I told him that I was obsessed with God and learning everything I could about Him. I have been in tears all morning due to his statement. I have been reading and watching EWTN and reading forums on the internet but I have not in anyway neglected my family or my wifely duties while doing these things.
A bright spot is that an aquaintance informed me of a parish about 20-25 minutes from my home which does have a nursery and offers RE classes for my 4 year old. I attended mass there yesterday and had an absolutely wonderful experience. I could concentrate during mass and take it all in! I left there feeling renewed and encouraged.
Please pray that my husband will soften his heart. My precious children are hearing him and this saddens me. My daughter is proud of the prayers she has memorized and says them to her Dad. She wants him to be as proud of her as I am and he will not comment to her when she says them. I have written too much already but again please remember us in your prayers.
