I will try not to make this long but I am terribly discouraged this morning. I have considered myself Protestant until the past few months. My adult daughter and her husband began RCIA classes in September. She shared extensively with me what she was learning in her classes until the point that I began questioning my own beliefs. I have not been to a Protestant church since December and have been regularly attending mass. I have an EXTREMELY ABNORMALLY active 2 year old. The pediatrician has confirmed this as well as other professionals - it is not just my perception. The parish that I have attended that is closest to my home has no nursery or cry room. The also offer no classes for my 4 year old. The five times I went to mass there was a horrible experience for all of us due to my 2 yo behavior. I left the parish Saturday before last in tears. I will not describe her behavior but suffice it to say that she disturbed everyone around us.

I homeschool my 4 year old who is advanced and is currently doing K5 cirriculum and will be ready for 1st Grade next school year. I contacted the local Catholic homeschool program who stated that I could not enroll my child unless I was Catholic due to a diocese rule. Since I must apply for an annulment for a previous marriage this could be years down the road. This door appears closed to me.

My husband is not at all supportive. He has attended church sporadically with me at the Protestant church. Since January, I have a HUGE thirst to read everything I can find regarding Catholicism and to learn everything that I can. I know that God has led me to the Catholic church without a doubt. I have already taught my 4 yo to recite the Our Father and Hail Mary. I have been watching EWTN at every opportunity. In this I am finding peace and am drawing closer to God. I know that Satan is trying to attack and discourage me. My husband has refused to go to mass with me. He knows nothing about the Catholic church but is being judgmental and says he “does not like it”. I have asked him if he would like to go but am not and will not attempt to force religion on him. If he comes home and I am watching EWTN he will automatically reach for the remote control and change the channel. This morning on the phone he was once again ridiculing me and actually said to me, “you are obsessed with the *amn Catholic church and I am tired of it”. I could not believe that he said that to me. I told him that I was obsessed with God and learning everything I could about Him. I have been in tears all morning due to his statement. I have been reading and watching EWTN and reading forums on the internet but I have not in anyway neglected my family or my wifely duties while doing these things.

A bright spot is that an aquaintance informed me of a parish about 20-25 minutes from my home which does have a nursery and offers RE classes for my 4 year old. I attended mass there yesterday and had an absolutely wonderful experience. I could concentrate during mass and take it all in! I left there feeling renewed and encouraged.

Please pray that my husband will soften his heart. My precious children are hearing him and this saddens me. My daughter is proud of the prayers she has memorized and says them to her Dad. She wants him to be as proud of her as I am and he will not comment to her when she says them. I have written too much already but again please remember us in your prayers.

I’m so sorry for the heartache your husband is causing you. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Praying, that JESUS, the Lord, holds you close and protects you.:signofcross:

Praying that God will soften your husband’s heart.

God Bless

Welcome to Catholic Answers!..

Keeping you and your husband in daily prayer. Have you discussed your whole situation with your Catholic parish priest…it may be helpful…

I am sorry to hear your Husband does not share your views, but perhaps he feels threatened and scared you are pushing him to something he does not want, keep your own faith going and god will answer you, i have lived in a mixed marriage for 33years and lived very happy, my husband does not believe in my faith, but does not judge me for believing and sometimes comes to mass with me as he says he believes in god, so be patient it will all work out god bless :gopray2:

Dear ajd,

God Bless you and your family. You are in my prayers. Lord, you have brought this woman and her children closer to you, please help her find the strength and courage to continue this journey. I pray to you Lord that you will guide her husband to you as well.

I understand your pain, Ajd. My husband does not accept my faith, and he too ridicules me for it. I find peace in early morning prayer, and so I wake at 5am to spend a few quiet hours with God each day. I pray that you too, will find time to reflect on your beliefs, and pray to God to help you through this difficult time.

Prayer to St. Monica

Dear St. Monica, troubled wife and mother,
Many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime.
Yet you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
You prayed daily for the conversion of your beloved husband, Patricius,
And your beloved son, Augustine;
Your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience, and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, Dear St. Monica,
That God may favourably hear my prayer for

The conversion of my husband, and the strong faith of my children, the conversion of all sinners in my family, and of the spouses being prayed for here by CAF members.

And grant me the grace to accept his will in all things,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, forever and ever.
Amen

Welcome to CAF, ajd464. :tiphat: I will be happy to pray for your intentions. God bless you and yours.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

My husband is not at all supportive.
My prayers go out for you and your family!

I wanted to say that, even though you cannot have your marraige annulled quickly, you can still go through RCIA yourself and enter the church. You can still be Catholic before your annullment. You wouldn’t be able to recieve communion, but don’t let that stop you! And then you would be able to enroll your children in Catholic homeschool. And once you attend church regularly and the priest gets to know you and your situation, he can give you a letter or something so the homeschool program knows you are working on becoming a Catholic.

And don’t let your unsupportive hubby stop you either. He doesn’t need to join the church with you. Over time, when he sees how important and life changing this is, and when he sees the positive impact it has on you, the kids, and the marriage and home life, he may rethink things.

I will pray for your intentions in my rosary tonight.

God Bless

I wanted to provide an update to my initial post. My husband has gone to mass with me for the past two Sundays! The prayers have been felt and I ask everyone to continue to remember us. We have been attending the very family friendly parish which I mentioned in my initial post. My husband has been asking me questions regarding the Catholic faith. One month ago I did not think he would be at this point as he was so adamant that he was not going with me. I can see the Holy Spirit working and I give Him the praise!

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Keeping your family in my prayers, May God continue to work his Divine Will, and bless your family with faith and devotion.
