I have already posted here that I feel called to join the Order of Preachers (Dominican Order).
This past weekend, I went to a convent in another state to have the first interview with one of the three people who will then be voting on whether I will be admitted into the order or not.
Now, I have to say that I was quite disappointed. I love the history of the O.P. as being the defenders of the faith, missionaries of truth, truly orthodox preachers loyal to the Pope and Magisterium.
During the talks with the Student-magister (one of the three) and the “guest-frater” (a young friar that kinda was my “guide” during my stay in the convent), it became apparent that “orthodoxy” was not something common in that place.
I reckon having seen a couple of cultist buildings near the convent and so asked whether the Order put effort into missionazing and converting them upon which got this reply:
“Why convert them? They are Christians. We all have just one religion.”
Then we also spoke about ecumenism about which I stated that true ecumenism is directed at unity under the supremacy of the Roman Pontiff, the pope. Any other scenario is betrayal of the Catholic faith. Furthermore, I stated that there would be no unity unless the protestants abandon their female “priests” and “bishops”. The Magister obviously did not like my position and simply said that Rome had to come closer to the others.
Then the other frater: we talked about a couple of things and I remember him telling me that he does not believe that the Papacy was there since the beginning of Christianity, rather he believes it to be an eventual development that arose out of necessity. Furthermore, he also stated that he believes dogmas may contain error.
I was lucky enough that another friar joined us with whom I had a conversation for a couple of hours while the other two seemed bored and a bit annoyed. The two of us talked about “extra ecclesiam nulla salus”, tradition and did realize we held similar views: that was very refreshing.
But then again, that person has no say in terms of my admission.
I am quite sad about the liberalism that seems to have taken over this Order.
Please pray that I make it into the Order.
The Magister said bye like this:
“maybe we’ll see each other again…that is if you make it in the order.”
