I have already posted here that I feel called to join the Order of Preachers (Dominican Order).
This past weekend, I went to a convent in another state to have the first interview with one of the three people who will then be voting on whether I will be admitted into the order or not.
Now, I have to say that I was quite disappointed. I love the history of the O.P. as being the defenders of the faith, missionaries of truth, truly orthodox preachers loyal to the Pope and Magisterium.

During the talks with the Student-magister (one of the three) and the “guest-frater” (a young friar that kinda was my “guide” during my stay in the convent), it became apparent that “orthodoxy” was not something common in that place.

I reckon having seen a couple of cultist buildings near the convent and so asked whether the Order put effort into missionazing and converting them upon which got this reply:

“Why convert them? They are Christians. We all have just one religion.”

Then we also spoke about ecumenism about which I stated that true ecumenism is directed at unity under the supremacy of the Roman Pontiff, the pope. Any other scenario is betrayal of the Catholic faith. Furthermore, I stated that there would be no unity unless the protestants abandon their female “priests” and “bishops”. The Magister obviously did not like my position and simply said that Rome had to come closer to the others.

Then the other frater: we talked about a couple of things and I remember him telling me that he does not believe that the Papacy was there since the beginning of Christianity, rather he believes it to be an eventual development that arose out of necessity. Furthermore, he also stated that he believes dogmas may contain error.

I was lucky enough that another friar joined us with whom I had a conversation for a couple of hours while the other two seemed bored and a bit annoyed. The two of us talked about “extra ecclesiam nulla salus”, tradition and did realize we held similar views: that was very refreshing.

But then again, that person has no say in terms of my admission.

I am quite sad about the liberalism that seems to have taken over this Order.

Please pray that I make it into the Order.

The Magister said bye like this:

“maybe we’ll see each other again…that is if you make it in the order.”

😦

I will pray for you, but perhaps you should consider a different order or chapter if this one is not orthodox.

God Bless

Thank you.

I feel called to the Order of Preachers. It does seem to have changed for the worse the past decades, but I would rather help fix it than simply abandon this great order 🙂

Perhaps you can find a Dominican friary or province that is better suited to you.

Have you checked out others?

God Bless

I actually thought of moving to the U.S…
However, I realized that if everyone moved away, it would be like abandoning this province and becoming part of the problem instead of the solution.

Maybe God does not want me to join? Who knows.

Let us pray for HIS will to be done, not anyone else’s.

Peace

If God wants you to join this order, then you will have a great trial to overcome. I am happy that you understand that not everyone will agree with you, and that, even though you would prefer similar views, you are not ready to give up. That shows a great deal of courage on your part. I will be praying for you, most definitely!

Prayers promised, for sure, from the poor wannabe-Dominican in Russia 🙂

I saw websites of some dominican (sisters) communities that are severely influenced by New Age practices (offering Reiki, Labyrinths, and some kind of chinese meditation…)
It was very sad to see from a people calling theirselves Dominicans. I would never consider non-habited sisters who are proud to be certified Reiki masters,… untill this will be the last dominican community even available in the world to join. 🙂 But anyway I’d rather join the Dominicans than other order =)

I believe that the Order as a whole is strong with the Truth, and orthodox, and loyal to the original charism of st.Dominic.

Remember this moment from the Life of St.Dominic… St.Dominic once said that he was always given by God anything he prayed for… so he was asked to pray for one famous theology teacher, so he would join the Order. He said that he would pray. And next day, this famous man came to him and asked to join the Dominicans…
So… if st.Dominic wants you to be in his Order, I’m sure he will have you there!!! 8)

(And aww… I want so deeply that he would like to “have” me “given to him”, too! 🙂

(feel free to PM me any time you want to talk about the O.P and dominican vocations! 😉

To CarmeliteGirl25:

Thank you so much for your prayers. “The prayer of a righteous man (woman in this case) availeth much” 😃

I think I will see in a month whether God truly wants me in or not.

Still two other interviews to go.

To Inity:

Are you planning to join the Dominican Sisters? If the ones in your area are not that great, you could as well join in another province. Or is Russia divided in different provinces - considering its size?

I also personally love the Order of Preachers: there’s not really any other order that I would seriously consider atm.
Maybe it is time for inner-reforms in this Order 😛

It’s time for the orthodoxy to sweep back into the Dominican life!

BTW: if the sisters you spoke of spent more time in Catholic teachings and rituals, they’d probably attract more people than by adapting Eastern stuff.

You’re welcome, but I’m hardly righteous. 😉 God bless you!

I plan to join the Dominican Sisters, yes. But I’m not sure yet which congregation.
The sisters in Russia are great. Russia, being very big, has only two sisters congregations available… and both have age limits. My favoritest one has limit of 28 and it is really hard for me that I can’t join me just because of my age. The other one has age limit of 30. But I may have a chance with them “on individual basis”. They are getting many vocations and are very orthodox.

I’m feeling more drawn to Italian communities though. I’m for long time in touch with one community - they are very nice and they are in need of vocations. And, I contacted two communities in England, too. I plan to visit all of them, and let st.Dominic guide me 🙂

The “new age-influenced” sisters I’ve been talking about, are in US. I would not post their link, but it’s easy to meet their site at Google if you seek for dominican sisters + reiki… I agree that it would be better for them to promote catholic traditional spiritual practices, than the eastern/new age stuff!

I believe that the Order as a whole is going well, though. It would be great if you could join the Order 🙂

Ah I see. Well, it’s time for you to check them 1 by 1 now 🙂
Have you already stayed in a convent?

You can always ask to stay for a couple of days and participate in their day-to-day lives 😃

I wish you the best and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Maybe we’ll meet each other someday as Dominicans 👍

I’ve been in a guest house, during the pilgrimage in Rome in 1994 - together with other russian pilgrims. It was really wonderful. I’m planning a “live in” now - for at least couple of weeks in a monastery in Florence, and probably some time in other ones.

Are you in Europe? We might meet during my travels, in some dominican sanctuary, if you can consider visiting Italy especially. Why not meet in the basilica of St.Dominic this summer 🙂

I will be travelling around Europe, most likely in late summer - early autumn. I want to visit lots of Dominican convents and shrines. Surely I will be in many italian cities. May be I will be able to visit Spain and so, Kalaruega. I didn’t plan to visit Germany especially, though…

I pray for God to give you the strength to remain strong and do not fall for the misunderstandings and false beliefs of those in the order!

This is nothing new, from the beginning weak “Christians” denied the Divinity of Jesus and disputed His teachings.

Even His own chosen disciples were human, weak and flawed. “Did I not choose you, the Twelve, and one of you is a devil?” Jn 6:70

“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive opinions. They will even deny the Master who bought them - bringing swift destruction on themselves.” 2Ptr 2:1

It is our calling, to defend the Truth that Jesus taught. He will give us the words and the courage necessary, "One night the Lord said to Paul in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent;” Acts 18:9

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!
