There are some things that people cannot do [with “two hands working”], but God can do anything. (Mt 19:26)

With prayer no one pretends to do anything except to ask God for help.

A thousand hands working cannot fight selfishness. Two hands praying can entreat God for a sick man’s happy death, or a cure for an otherwise incurable disease.

Dear bre - praying on behalf of the sick and selfish is truly a life-long endeavor! We are often in one catagory or another ourselves, during our lives - some kind of sick, or some kind of selfish. And we can frequently be the unwilling recepient of someone else’s struggle with or (sadly) easy surrender to the same, (not talking physical ailments here…). I will be praying for this, and also for you and any specific intention at this time. May the Lord bless and encourage you.

Also to Friendly Atheist - It is true that genuine spirituality involves not only the giving of self to God in prayer, but also the giving of self to others. This does involve work - often not just physical, but investment of time and love as well. The kind of life that exemplifies this complete giving of self to God, and complete giving of self to and on behalf of others is what is so admirable about Jesus. I believe in God and can trust in His love for us. This truly is a gift, one I didn’t always have. I pray that sometime this blessing would become yours as well. Meantime I pray only good things for your heart. May you walk in safety and peace.

Ummm no prayer cannot cure an incurable disease that’s why we have science and medicine to find cures for those diseases. Stop giving god credit for the work of smart and dedicated doctors and scientist.
