Be pleased to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna and of Your Blessed Mother. Give those whom I recommend the patience to bear with their affliction and resignation to do Your divine will. Give them the consolation they need and especially the cure they so much desire, if it be Your will. Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Please pray for my separated husband who has been admitted to the psychiatric hospital. I think many of the regular members might know out situation - if not, you can search for threads called “not in love anymore.” Things are very bad, and after years of honestly trying on my part, it became evident that he would not give up the very disordered behaviors he was embracing and it became bad for our children.

Please pray for him. He was having suicidal thoughts, and now they think he might have bipolar disorder. He really is very disturbed and needs mental and spiritual help. I am riddled with guilt and very upset.

With great love for a fellow wife, I too have a husband who suffers with depression, though not as severe as yours. Mine plans on going through RCIA this year. I will keep you in my prayers, keep me in yours please. I have been blessed in that medication seems to work for mine as long as he doesn’t quit taking it…

I am assuming from what you said, reading between the lines, I am not going to ask how violent he became with you or your children. Take care of yourself and your kids, they are the first priority, Pray for him, but he must decide for himself whether he will take the help that he is being offered, both by medicine or God the Father in heaven. If all it takes for him to be normal is medicine…then he will get that now. He is already in a facility so there is not a need to take it to probate to put him into a facility…Just know that your first priority is your safety and the safety of your kids, even if it means from your husband…

When he does come out, even if he seems better, don’t rush into things, because unless he is truly stable the children are better off without that influence…Please consult your parish priest on what exactly your obligations are in this matter. I found great comfort in talking to my parish priest. If you have truly done everything in your ability to help this man, and he still won’t take the inititave to get better and be a good husband, then that is not your fault…I think to many times in situations like this no one tells the wife hey, you know that you have already done everything possible for him…you are only human and can only do what you can do…Please do not be riddled with guilt. God does love you and cares for you, just as he loves and cares for your husband. Even if there were one small thing you over looked, God still loves and has forgiveness for what you have done or failed to do…with mental illness his first step is actually knowing there is a problem and getting the help he needs…This is HIS responsibility as a human being…to try to overcome and be as productive as a person as he can be…and as good spiritually as he can be,and it is his responsibility to be a good husband and father. Why should you feel guilty in keeping your kids safe, that is your charge as a mother. Keeping your self safe is your charge as a human being…

Now is the time to leave it to God and his guidance…And please talk this over with your priest, if you are riddled with guilt, take it to confession, it does help to know that God takes away our guilt and our feelings of guilt and helps with our resolve to do better…I occasionally find myself in need of confession because I get frustrated and let myself lose my temper…but as far as what my husband does I do not have that control…
