With all of the debate on this thread regarding which is the better party Republican or Democrat, as I mentioned in my earlier post above, both parties are guilty of mis-leading voters and not following through with promises, there is one thing we as believers should be considering and taking seriously. We currently have only one party that still maintains a pro-life platform AND we are in danger of losing that one.

This is something we all need to consider when we vote this year.

Actaully I am not proposing one limit their vote to one party at all. i am claiming that one should never vote for one who supports the killing of our children regardless of which party they belong to. A canidate should not get our vote merely becuase they are pro-life but not being so should be an automatic disqualifier.

Right now, I would urge every pro-lifer to vote in the Republican primary for the candidate you feel is closest to a pro-life position – whether you consider your self a Republican or not. The objective is to deny a pro-choice candidate the nomination and preserve and accentuate the differences between the parties on this vital issue.

I agree with that. But from a standpoint of not materially cooperatng in an abortion one could vote for a pro-life democrat in good conscience. it would do little if any good , however , in the fight against abortion.

Re-read what I said. I didn’t ask Democrats to vote for a Republican for President, I asked them to help the Republicans choose a pro-life candidate.

Clearly the Democratic Presidential Candidate will be pro-choice. To preserve our choices, we need a counter-choice in the other party.

Hello Vern Humphrey

I am new to this thread and only recently started spending any time on the forum. AND maybe I am a little slow, but I can’t determine what your politics and position is. I went back over several of your posts and I am still confused. Could you explain your position clearly so I understand. It appears you are pro-choice but your profile says you are Catholic???

I am secretary of our local Right to Life chapter, and am fully in accord with the Catholic position on abortion – additionally, I have several times offered the following on this forum:
Human life is sacred.
The right to life is the most fundamental of all human rights. Without a right to life, all other rights are valueless. What good does freedom of speech do a dead man? How can a corpse exercise the right to trial by jury?
The right to life accrues to each of us as a part of our basic humanity. It is as much a part of us as our minds, our personalities, or our arms and legs. It is given to us by no one. It is ours merely because we are living human beings.
There are those who say that “society” or the government decides when we get the right to life. If that is so, then it is no right at all, but merely a privilege, for if the government can grant the right to life, it can surely withhold it. Once you accept that the government has this power, you must accept, willy-nilly that the government can decree some people – perhaps Jews, or Blacks or Catholics – never get the right to life.
If, therefore there is such a thing as a right to life, it must accrue to every living human being. This sets up a simple, three-part test.
 Is the unborn child living? If it were not, we would not be having this debate!
 Is it human? Check the DNA. If it has rabbit or squirrel DNA, then it is not human. But if it has human DNA, it is human.
 But is it a being? Check the DNA again. If it has the mother’s DNA, then it is a part of her body. But if it has its own DNA, then it is a being – a separate and distinct human life.
Very clearly, the unborn has the same right to live as any other living human being. Who denies that, denies the whole concept of human rights.
Does that answer your question?

Yes, it does, thank you very much.

After understanding your position, I can now understand your posts. I was thinking that you were suggesting that Democrats should help nominate a Pro Life Republican candidate because you thought that would insure a Democratic victory. Many Democrats think this.

Let them think it. As I tell Republicans, if you nominate a pro-life candidate and lose the election, you will still have a Republican Party that offers people a genuine choice.

If you nominate a pro-choice candidate, whether you win or lose this election, the Republican Party will cease to exist, being replaced by the “Meetoo Party.”

(As in, “I support taxpayer funded abortion on demand.”

“Meetoo!”)

I totally agree. But, we have a problem with some conservative commentators like Sean Hannity promoting A Pro-Choice Republican candidate. And Hannity claims to be Catholic. Hannity also has tried to ridicule Father Thomas J. Euteneuer President of Human Life International for calling him on his anti Catholic position.

To date Hannity has refused to open his mind to his error. We need to get more Catholics calling him on this. I sent him an email but he has not acknowledged it. I used to be a fan of his. But, not at the moment.

Why is it that some on these forums assume that the democratic party is more in line with the church’s social teachings? The only way that could be true is if the democratic leadership spoke out in support of the 5 non-negotiables. Since the current leadership is FOR every one of these, than because they supposedly support the poor they are somehow the church preferred party?

And, why is it that so many on these forums think that the Republican party is not in line with the social teachings? Is it because they speak about personal responsibility and less government intrusion? Is it becuase they favor laws that help promote private charity over government handouts?

Having said all of that, neither party is what it used to be. My family have been life long republicans, but we are extremely disatisfied with the GOP, and if they offer up a pro-abort candidate then no one in my family will vote for him.
But don’t kid yourselves, the democratic party is not the party of the common man. They don’t care about the poor any more than Soviet Russia cared about it’s poor. They view the poor as a way to keep their power base. Keep promising people the world and they’ll vote for you, even if you can’t deliver.

Both of the parties are corrupt and globalist in thinking. Niether care about the average american.

PS. I won’t toot the republican’s horn, but I know lot’s of conservative rep. women who spend all of there free time doing one form of charity work or another. They volunteer at homeless shelters, schools, hospitals, churches, pregnancy crisis centers, etc. So don’t think that democrats have cornered the market on charity and love for your neighbor

But why would you support someone who supports the gruesome procedure you described?. The excuse of “everybody does” doesnt cut it,
Because they don’t “support” IT…The support that this is hard and difficult moral issue, very much tied to certain religious proclivities as well as civil rights. They support that there are conflicting views on how this should be handled and its hard for some people at least to know what is their own religious feeling apart from what the law allows. They assuredly support most any and all alternatives that avoid this choice. They desire as do most people that no abortions be done. But most at this point don’t feel that they have a right to impose this on others who feel differently. And this is for a variety of reasons no doubt. They may be wrong, but and its a huge BUT it is simply unfair to not accept that they are sincere and thoughtful in their thinking as you are in yours. When we start dividing into them and us, we most assuredly are heading into a bad place. The Religious Right is hugely responsible for the divisions in the country I would argue because of their incessant claim that its their way or none. Rancor is just not going to carry the day.

I know all the rationalizations given for supporting this carnage. You don’t have to list them for me again. I’m just curious as to how you can, with your vote ,support this abject evil? I notice you hide behind rhetoric when confronted with what abortion really entails. I also notice you seem to hold more contempt for those who point out what abortion entails than you do for those who support abortion itself-your comments on the so-called religious right being proof positive of this.

Good post. I have often had the same questions. I have several Democrat friends and we often have this debate. It seem from my experiance with these friends and from posts on various forums, Democrats can see these faults in the Republican party but are blind to the same faults in the Democratic Party. It is soooo obvious to me that the Democratic candidates play this false image that they are the party of the poor to the hilt. They promote that we will be your Robin Hoods, we will tax the rich and give it to you lie until I want to barf. I am convienced that it is a guilt complex in many cases that believing Democrats buy into this ploy. I would rather voluntarily donate to charities then trust the government to do it for me. This way I can be sure that the dollars I give go to worthy causes and not to abortion mills.

Nonsense. The corporatists will still be in control and that’s all that matters to the Republican leadership.

Well you did ask didn’t you? I don’t see the Republicans as doing any better, only trying to talk what you want to hear. That’s why. I don’t hide in rhetoric. I know what abortion entails. Do you seriously think anybody doesn’t? I don’t hold contempt for them, I point out that their rhetoric is actually counterproductive to their intended goal. It’s an attempt to inflame passions and does not contribute one solid piece of evidence to the discussion. And you are correct, I do not condemn people who are pro-choice. As I said, no one supports abortion.

There is no so-called religious right, there is one. They refer to themselves that way. I consider their fundamentalist appoach dangerous. Fundamentalism is on the rise worldwide and is without a doubt our most significant problem today. The Church also decries fundamentalism.
