In a democratic state the rights of minorities have to be respected.
Surely you’re joking!!! Do minorities get to make up their own rights and then the majority has to respect them?

I want the right to take as much money as I want out of the bank. Since I’m a minority the bank has to give me the money and you have to support my right.

Who exactly are you insinuating is a racist?
This is false. A large majority of Americans disagree with you. Please provide legitimate documented proof.
The proof is growing one state at a time and will eventually engulf all of America. It won’t matter how many Americans disagree when it becomes law everywhere.
There are soooo many rational reasons. Many of them revolve around this lifestyle being forced upon us against our will.
Like having different races and cultural traditions.
We will be forced to participate in many ways.

Our public schools will be forced to teach that it is a morally acceptable life style.
That’s an unfortunate side effect since people often confuse legality with morality. But they would be right to say that it is legally right. However, you are free to continue in your Catholic beliefs…privately.
Catholic adoption agencies will be forced to place adoptions with gay couples or close their doors.
Well if it is legal for gay couples to get married, then there will be no legally justifiable reason for gay couples to be denied the right to adopt. But if Catholics in America are so concerned then maybe every Catholic family should think about adopting before the gay rights activists get a chance.
People who speak publicly against the gay marriage will be forcibly taken to jail.
Well, that’s what happens when you speak against peoples rights.
Preachers will be charged with hate speech if they preach against the gay marriage
If you mean “criminally charged”, well that would be trespassing on religious rights, since the state has no right to dictate what is good Christian teaching and what is not.
and some kook who heard the sermon went out and killed a gay person.
Probably because preachers are spending more time protesting against gay rights then actually teaching the faith.
God bless.
God bless you to.

The proof is growing one state at a time and will eventually engulf all of America.
This is false again. This is not proof but your opinion.
Like having different races and cultural traditions.
This is a non sequitur.

You are confusing legality with morality. ALL laws are based upon a moral judgment!
I am free to continue my Catholic belief publically and the US Constitution is on my side. I have the right to vote my conscience regardless of extreme secular religious criticism.

This is a very anti-Catholic anti-religious view. This is an anti-free speech view.
Well, that’s what happens when you speak against peoples rights.
We should have equal rights, not special rights to the detriment of others rights.
If you mean “criminally charged”, well that would be trespassing on religious rights, since the state has no right to dictate what is good Christian teaching and what is not.
Well we finally agree! It would be criminal to take religious freedom away from Christians just because it does not coincide with gay activists.
Probably because preachers are spending more time protesting against gay rights then actually teaching the faith.
Do you know the Catholic teaching on homosexuality? Are you aware there no such thing as gay rights? Can you quote from the US Constitution which gives special rights to gays? You must start to admit there is a concept of “equal” rights and not special rights for certain groups to the detriment of others rights.

God bless.

All of this is obsequious. When someone mentions religion, the counter becomes on of separatism. When countered with separatism, the counter becomes one of religion. Then, someone mentions racism, which is always a fallback when making no sense these days for those having a very limited vocabulary.

This so called argument of what is an obvious moral issue trying to become a legal issue has boiled down to picking out the fly dung from the pepper shaker. The simple answer is if such a law is enacted by our federal government, very soon, many, such as those of the Morman faith will legally return to their 100 year old ways of multiple marriage as a few have already done, many more will sue for every other form of “marriage” that may be conceived. Why, because the law now allows it to happen and that law wiil be interpreted in countless ways in the years to come.

Today, we are arguing before the Supreme Court a family’s right to build a home on their land. Why, because a federal government agency has assumed the right, under the law, to say and enforce the right to say who and who cannot build. When the EPA was enacted did anyone envision this? Today, we have a federal mandate that each person is forced to have medical insurance, at the expense of others; again under the law. Did anyone envision this when writing the Constitution? Today, we have African-American only schools in Chicago, after centuries of their ancestors fighting just to be equal, again under the law. Did those brave Civil Rights marchers marching arm in arm against baseball bats and firehoses envision this? The worst part of it is that We the People are paying for all this. As said before, any law, once enacted, will be stretched to cover every whim of the time.

Someone referred to me as a Nazi during this discussion. I only ask that we remember “Crystalnacht” and “The night of the long knives” now ingrained forever in history. The killing of millions just because they of their faith. That is what happens when secular becomes monolithic.

With this argument, a few may long for the days of the inquisition in our church. It has gotten that friviolous. No one can legislate morality, although our federal government is doing it’s damnest to try.

God Bless and God Save the United States of America.

Well if you believe that your religious beliefs ought to have a-prior legal authority over everyone esle’s beliefs based on nothing more than faith, then maybe they are correct?

The problem is you are moaning and crying about people enforcing their beliefs on you, but at the same time you want to enforce your religious beliefs on other people. It all sounds a bit hypocritical.

I cannot expect the government to enforce laws according to my faith. In a pluralistic society I expect secular law to do that which respects everybody beliefs to a certain extent; which means that everybody has to make a compromise legally speaking. I cannot expect the government to acknowledge only heterosexual definitions of marriage simply because I believe it. I am not “the society”; I am a part of a pluralistic society of differing concepts and beliefs. The question is whether or not people will accept that fact.

You are confusing and improperly separating secular law and legal rights with moral values.

There is no such thing as a pure “secular law” where everybody leaves their personal beliefs behind. ALL laws are based upon moral judgments.

You can speak and vote your “secular religious” beliefs because you have that right. However, Christians have the right to speak and vote their consciences. The US constitution has provided specific guarantees to protect these rights.

God bless.

And so to any other persons beliefs. Why Your Christian beliefs should be favoured over other peoples beliefs is the question.

Christian beliefs get no specific special favors or rights. I get a vote and I will use it to follow my conscience to enact laws that I believe are best for our society.

God bless.

And you have to show why gay marriage should not be law. Saying that its because my religion rejects it, or because its a family tradition, or because its immoral according to your understanding of morality, isn’t going to work, because on each case you are asking the government to put your beliefs over the beliefs of others on the grounds of faith. Why should a secular government put your moral beliefs over the moral beliefs of others?

Because I have a vote which cannot be dismissed regardless of the foundations my beliefs.

Please provide a quote from the US constitution which says our government is secular? If you can’t, your entire argument is faulty.

God bless.

Having the vote does not mean that your vote will not in fact violate equal rights by placing gay people outside of the right to a state marriage.

If the people of the USA vote to approve a constitutional amendment stating that marriage is between 1 man and 1 women, it becomes law! Again you are confusing legal rights with moral values.
This is not from the US Constitution. This is someone’s opinion. There is no constitutional guarantee the USA is a secular state.

God bless.

You can rely on Wikipedia? You continue to avoid quoting the US Constitution because you know it does not support your statements.

If the legal system is not intrinsically Christian or any religion, then America is implicitly secular and pluralistic by default. That’s the rational implications, and that’s why other values other than your own are being slowly implemented into the system. The reason that it has not happened sooner is because of the fact that many people hate gay people and are afraid of change because of sexual insecurity, and religion and tradition is often an excuse; and these very same people are responsible for making gay people appear to be an oppressed minority. They are helping to create the appearance of homophobia.

It does not matter what is written in the constitution. It does not matter if the document cries out for God and country. That’s just there to brainwash Christians into thinking they live in a country that ultimately supports their Christian values. That’s a smart thing to do if ultimately a large amount of profit is being produced by Christian workers. Its more like for economy and country.

Unless you can get homosexuality back on the list for mental illness; the acceptance of homosexuality everywhere as a human right, is an inevitable fact that you seem to be in denial of.

The Church teaches that our ultimate authority is our conscience and this applies to everyone without exception. Therefore we are morally obliged to respect the moral decisions of others unless they infringe our rights.
