From what I have read on this board, most people would say “Well they are wrong and it is their fault for not knowing the truth that is the Catholic Church.”
Yes I know that’s what they would say. They have faith and they believe they know the truth.

So what would that energy policy be? Rampant drilling? What are you proposing?
I don’t know what you mean by “rampant” drilling, but if we did drill more, speculators and the world market would be forced by market forces to recognize the change in the supply and demand curves and the price would go down.

Drilling can be done in an environmentally sound way.

What do you think those northern European nations that the left idolize so much are doing in the North Sea?

Hint: They aren’t building solar panels.

Because I won’t be voting for Obama I won’t be voting in this poll. But, I am very concerned about our country and how much longer it can continue with our debt situation. I don’t believe that we can just keep printing money and if we don’t get things under control we will be the next Greece or Spain. We must all band together, no matter who we are voting for, and pray for the future of this country and our world. Please, for just a moment, put aside our differences and pray together for whoever is elected to be lead by the Holy Spirit to find peaceful ways to begin solving our issues. God bless America.
The stimulus bill, Dodd-Frank housing entitlement and the QE1-3, the latter of which is just designed to stave off disaster to help Obama look good, will have some pretty stark consequences.

That’s why its important for the GOP not only to defeat Obama but to also win the Senate.

If we can do that, we can maybe offset some of the stagflation and/or rising interest rates that will happen and do it in a significantly less time frame than 1980-83.

But make no mistake, we are going to have to hit bottom before things really get better.

I’ve considered it but with respect to abortion, Roe occurred 40 yrs ago this coming January and I’ve noticed the emphasis growing towards Republican policies more recently than 40 yrs ago.
Like 2 millenia ago?

Clement of Alexandria: (circa 150 - 215 CE) “Our whole life can go on in observation of the laws of nature, if we gain dominion over our desires from the beginning and if we do not kill, by various means of a perverse art, the human offspring, born according to the designs of divine providence; for these women who, if order to hide their immorality, use abortive drugs which expel the child completely dead, abort at the same time their own human feelings.” Paedagogus 2

Didache: “Thou shalt not murder a child by abortion.” (2:2) It also says that “The Way of Death is filled with people who are…murderers of children and abortionists of God’s creatures.” (5:1-2)

Apostolicae Sedis in 1869?

Again, I don’t agree with your perception. Same sex marriage and abortion are things that the Church has never changed its position on. Its the fact that others are bringing it to the forefront that the issue is so vocal within the Church.

It’s also been more recently than 40 years ago that the Democratic Party married itself to abortion and the abortion industry.

I’m not an Obama Catholic, but I would vote for other if I was. I think he’s ok on immigration, at least better than Romney will be. He may or may not be better than Romney on foreign policy; I’m leaning towards better but he’s not exactly gotten us out of the Middle East. Social Justice he is awful; prochoice, pro gay marriage, Cash for Clunkers, Obamacare, etc etc. Fiscal responsibility he is worse than Bush, and you’ve got to be really bad to be in Bush’s league. Only Reagan joins Obama and Bush jr.

I think it’s because recently both parties have gone in opposite directions leaving the Church relatively centrist in comparison. So instead of being more like Democrats economically and Republicans on most social issues, it’s more of being like neither economically and more like Republicans on social issues.

I don’t have a horse in this race, but I would like to point out that it could be possible that nothing is overriding abortion, but that the catholic is pro choice. And according to a lot of surveys, that isn’t an uncommon stance.
Great point.

For Catholics to be effective socially* and at the booth we need to speak with one voice. The technocrats and marketers who work for politicians (Madison Avenue types) know how to cut us to pieces (with wedge issues) and render us ineffective or even irrelevant. And everyone seems so rock solid, dug in, on “their side”, that it seems insurmountable. (Of course, it is not, God Willing) As it is, the Catholic “block” is inconsequential. Why do you think we’re treated the way we are. Because there is little or no risk for them to treat us this way. What are we going to do about it. We offset each other. Left right lib con blah blah blah…

Either we join forces or accept the consequences. Either way, the important thing is your soul. Jesus wants your soul, and the souls of others. That’s where our focus should be. Politics is worldy and noble but doesn’t compare to saving souls.
  • to acheive some critical mass that we once, had but have lost…
