The fact that a person feels bored during Mass, etc. is not the fault of the Catholic Church. We are not there to be entertained but to really give thanks to God for His sacrifice. Here were I live, we are losing a lot of Catholics to the new jazzier protestant churches, one of which sadly is run by an ex-Catholic. They feel that they are filled with the Holy Spirit. Who knows maybe they are. But we in the Catholic Church have our God…Body, Blood Soul and Divinity…we have to learn to appreciate this treasure.
So, I would vote Bad Thing.

I voted other. Believing false things about God is bad, but having that Catholic-like truth in it is good. The Holy Father, Benedict XVI has expressed this.

I have no idea who was, who is, and who will be saved…only God knows. I though I stated this earlier.

But, it is a fact that our Church teaches clearly that no one outside the Church will be saved. As far as I can tell the only exception to this are those who are in the state of “invincible ignorance”. Exactly who is it that is in such a state? Neither you or I know for sure, but it would an act of charity to inform someone outside our Church that if they remain outside, they risk losing their soul.
Sir: You are indeed dogged about the term ‘Invinciable Igorance’. As you know that term is applied only to those who have never heard of Jesus Christ. I doubt any Christian Faith is eligable to be considered. I certainly don’t know of any. Even Muslems, it’s doubtful under the strict definition. They know of Jesus and honor him as the greatest of the Prophets. Hindus, Taoists, Buddists et al, would in a large percent qualify as ‘Invincably Ignorant’. Excuse me for being pedantic, your posts have made my day. I.I is a term I haven’t heard, or encountered.in at least twenty years. However, that being said, my position has not altered. My trust in God is such I firmly believe there’s a place in Heaven for all. To quote St. Augustine, “Sythian or Barbarian, free man or slave, man or woman.”

Tell if I’m wrong here, Dancus, but are you saying that there is no salvation for Protestants?

In reality, Catholics leave Mass as soon as it’s over (if not sooner), they pray only pre-written prayers, they don’t share their faith with others, they smoke, they drink too much, they cuss, they don’t care about the people in their parishes- they only do volunteer work to help people who they never see outside of the volunteer work, and they don’t feel challenged at church to reform their lives.
In actuality, they turn deaf ears to the challenge posed to them. Had they listened to the Mass readings, Jesus Himself challenges us to reform our lives. Yet, both Jesus and the Church don’t force anybody to reform their lives, just suggest it.

Granted, she could be more persuasive, as she used to be before the messy 60’s. But it’s a matter of time until we hear more direct challenges from the pulpit again, I believe.

What concievable, or inconcieveable, notion briught you the this conclusion. I simply stated that I.I. doesn’t apply to those who know Jesus. Protestants since they know God the Father and Jesus and worship both don’t come under the protection of I.I. No more then Catholics qualify for that protection. Make no mistake, I firmly believe anyone who calls on God and has Faith wiil be in Heaven.with him. No matter by what Title they may call on Him in their mother tongue. I also believe the God they meet will be the God they fully expect to meet. Make no mistake I may be a titular Catholic, not a practising, as some of you. But I have never turned away from the Church or entertained the thought of joining any other. Have I made self clear on your question? Dan.

I don’t think that beinga Protestant is such a good thing, because they don’t get to experience the BODY, BLOOD, SOUL AND DIVINITY in the Real Presence of the Eucharist.

There was a young couple who recently converted to the Catholic Church even though their Church was “lively” and “very songful” – lots of clapping and tambourines, yelling, and swaying … etc… (please understand this is NOT a put-down, just a description of how they worshipped…)

I think that without a deep knowledge of the “Heaven on Earth” that actually takes place during the Mass, it’s hard for someone to sit though the “out of tune” choir and boring homily.

When I asked the why they converted, they said that besides longing for the Real Presense of Christ in the Eucharist, they explained “we came to realize that our worship was more like entertainment and lack reverence.”

I didn’t know what to say except… "welcome home…"

Blessings,
Joanie

I opined “yes”, 'cause the question did not tell us that the Catholic left the Church,[as many seemed to assume and set their hair on fire] but only that someone taught them some aspects of Catholic Truth that, through poor teaching and poor example, the Church never communicated. In the Church he will have access to the graces to truly blossem into the holiness and the gifts of the Spirit that were his birthright. Might those things he learns be distorted, incomplete? Yes. Our task is to open His eyes to the wonder of the Christian life exemplified by our own lives and the teachings of God’s Church.

The response, however, of that Catholic’s Catholic peers will determine whether or not that person will remain in the church **or be driven away by prejudices against people who never knew the full gospel. **

Please stop seeing protestants as mere heretics and schismatics.** Rather they are earnest seekers,** [Samaritans, if you will], seekers after God, (by their history) **denied access to the fullness of the sacrifces and the revelation. **

So could a Samaritan who believed in Jesus, introduce a Jew to Christ? ans: yes. Would that Jew, by believing in Jesus, become a samaritan ? ans: no.

It would be a Bad Thing if that person left the church. **Woe also to the souls who by their pride, bigotry, envy and formalisms drove that person out of God’s Church. **

and Yes I am** now** a Catholic. Born a Baptist, led to faith and baptism, renewed into a vital, transforming union with Christ, and led by the Spirit to the truth of Catholic Doctrine… But it was only when I met Catholics **that Lived a holy, vital union with Christ, that I was assured that the Catholic Church not only had the form of Godliness, but also demonstrated its power. **
PS 2005-Sept 08 is also my 1st aniversary of the first mass I had ever been to. God had me on Rush delivery to Rome sweet Home. [Mary’s Birthday … hmmm]
👍 GOD BLESS YOU ! CONGRATULATIONS ! forums.catholic-questions.org/images/misc/birthday.gif

Heretic. Wow. That’s pretty strong. Is it not possible that by knowing Jesus more intimately one moves closer to the fullness of the Catholic faith and not farther away?

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
817 In fact, "in this one and only Church of God from its very beginnings there arose certain rifts, which the Apostle strongly censures as damnable. But in subsequent centuries much more serious dissensions appeared and large communities became separated from full communion with the Catholic Church - for which, often enough, men of both sides were to blame."269 The ruptures that wound the unity of Christ’s Body - here we must distinguish heresy, apostasy, and schism270 - do not occur without human sin:

Where there are sins, there are also divisions, schisms, heresies, and disputes. Where there is virtue, however, there also are harmony and unity, from which arise the one heart and one soul of all believers.271

The devil is a deceiver. In the case of those who split away from the church, the deception often takes the form of persuading those lost souls that they are moving closer.

Protestant is a bad thing for they take the Bible literally which is a denial to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit…

Protestant is a bad thing since they teach a lot of absurdities e.g “Bible Alone” a term that doesn’t literally exists in the Bible…

Protestant is a bad thing since they canbot guarantee that their teaching is infallible or free from error… 🙂

Interesting way of putting it. Can you explain what you mean by “Protestant is a bad thing for they take the Bible literally which is a denial to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit…”? I don’t fully understand what you mean.

As a recent convert I just can’t understand why anyone would be foolish enough to leave the One True Church it has all truth and why someone would want to go to an inferior church is beyond me.

Hello,
I’m not sure that you will see my question, but I was curious about your conversion. How and why did it happen?

Have you read any books by Dr. Scott Hahn PhD? He too is a convert from being a Presbyterian Minister!

All I know is that GOD LOVES THE CONVERTS! I’ve met several in my Church and after their conversion GOD seems to Grace them abundently!

Welcome home!
Joanie

GodBlessJoanie: My conversion occured a year ago I was in the Disciples of Christ I used to hate the Church or at least what I thought was the Church because I listened to liars like Tim Lahaye, Clarence Larkin and Jack Chick. Even though I was very happy in my church something wasn’t quite right I began to become disillusioned after many people in the congragation began studying the “Da Vinci Code” I was appaled and tried everything to thawrt with some success I studied history (big mistake) because I then I discovered that sola scriptura was a lie then I met St. Faustina. I began to have a facination with the Divine Mercy I even read her diary and was enthralled my opion of the Church changed. Purgatory fell into place and suddenly made sense Then Our Lady came to me I got a Green Scapulat and started praying its prayer became devoted to her and her Immaculate Heart After I had a car accident which I’m convinced Mary saved my life as I was nearly killed. The Eucharist came next along with the Pope and one day out of the blue while at work it hit “I’m going to become Catholic” so I called my local parish told them I wanted to join and met with the RCIA director began the process on of all days September 8th Our Lady’s Birthday.

I fully agree Sir. However some folk toss that term about without awareness of its full meaning in Church dogma. It’s been said of me a few times owing to my, to them, unconvential thinking. I just think to myself I’m in good company. St. Paul was desribed to the Roman procurator Felix, ’ As leader of the Heresy and Heritics involved.’ The Essenes were called Heritics as well by the Senhedrin.

WOW! That’s quite a testimonial! Thank you for writing about it and "Welcome Home."
Blessings to YOU!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… I just love a good, steaming, hot cup of anti-protestantism in the morning! :coffee:

This post and others like it on this board are increasingly solidifying my faith as a ‘protestant’. So, thank you.
If I were considering whether I belonged in the Catholic Church and people from his “true” Church talked to me with such presumption and hostility, then I’d be tempted to say you can have whatever you call “truth” because it isn’t making you into the kind of person I want to be.
So VERY true. Now, I am not saying that it is SOLEY the fact that there are those of you who put me off by your presumptions and ‘uncharitable’ behavior (even hypocritical) as the reason for my unwillingness to consider the catholic faith. I make up my own mind and if I could find something that would tell me that your denomination was the one for me, I would be there in a heart beat.

I say ‘hypocritical’ because if I were to say to you that I thought that catholocism was BAD because of this or that MOST of you would jump down my throat and yell ANTI-CATHOLIC! And you know it’s true. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t do the same thing. You call us heretics, bigots, and unsaved but the moment we turn around and do the same thing you recoil and take on the wounded personna, cry out WHY DO THEY HATE US, and then ask God to forgive us. It’s sad how much SOME of you hate protestants. After all, we are on the same team headed by the same coach… Jesus.
