Is it planned for Trump to do any campaign events in Utah? Is Clinton planning to do any campaign events in Utah? Is her campaign spending any money to run any ads in Utah? If Utah is really some kind of swing state this election cycle, then surely this should be happening?

This new poll hasn’t been taken into consideration yet I don’t think in the Real Clear Politics Average, but Trump is +14.7 in the Real Clear Politics in Utah: realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/ut/utah_trump_vs_clinton-5834.html

I think the poll is taken into consideration in this forecast and Trump’s chances to win the state is still 95.2%: projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/utah/

The Deseret News which is owned by the LDS church has come out against Trump. I am surprised this isn’t bigger news. It very well may mean that Utah will vote against Trump this year and could also affect the vote in Arizona and Nevada.

Most of the time newspaper endorsements don’t mean much. But in this case it can be taken almost as direction from the LDS Apostles.

And, no they aren’t endorsing Hillary, from the article:

And along with the billionaire businessman’s sudden fall, independent candidate and BYU graduate Evan McMullin surged into a statistical tie with the two major party presidential nominees, according to survey conducted Monday and Tuesday by Salt Lake City-based Y2 Analytics.

“A third-party candidate could win Utah as Utahns settle on one,” said Quin Monson, Y2 Analytics founding partner.

Frankly, Trump is clueless about the Saints. I don’t think him going to the state and saying “I like Mormons” will help him.

Pretty much. The reason Utah has stayed red all these years is the LDS Church directly or indirectly backing the Republican candidate. If they’re not backing Trump which is clearly the case, then Utah is very much in play. Because Trump’s personal morals don’t line up with Mormons any more than Clinton’s do.

The editor of The Deseret News has said regarding the issue of The Deseret News and their editorial on Donald Trump:
“There was absolutely no consultation with the church about our decision to take this step.”

The Salt Lake Tribune does endorse Hillary:
Editorial: In the end, Hillary Clinton is the only qualified candidate, and the best choice

A McMullin win takes UT from the Republican column, a state which no one had on the radar for Clinton to begin with anyway along her path to 270.

Meanwhile, Maine, a state that should be safe for Hillary Clinton given how the state has voted in prior presidential elections for the Democrat over the Republican, could be in play for Trump?
A new poll from @FiveThirtyEight: “Maine People’s Resource Center”] has @realDonaldTrump +2 in a ME2 poll taken from Oct. 7-9 #Election2016

How is Evan McMullin doing in Utah?
He posted on Facebook today that he is actually in a statistical tie with both Trump and Clinton, even though only 50% of Utah voters have heard of him. I hadn’t heard of him either until a friend shared that post of his on Facebook.

Here’s an article about it:

I think that’s even bigger news.

If McMullin can win Utah, and neither Trump or Clinton get to 270, then it goes to the House…and I could see the Republican-controlled House going with McMullin. That would be the perfect storm!

As for my part, McMullin won’t be winning in my state. For the above scenario to play out, I need Trump to win my state (I’m in the one of many swing states this election cycle). I’ll vote for Trump in the hope that the dream scenario comes true. I guess we’ll see.

The Mormon church should think their support of Hillary out again. If the Democrats want there to be a “Catholic Spring”, in which Catholics are persuaded by the government to abandon the Church’s teachings, they’ll want a Mormon spring too.

I think Evangelicals already know they’re in the cross hairs. One hopes Catholics learn it before November 8.

I think that many Catholics would welcome the idea of a “Catholic Spring” as you call it. Most of the ones I knew growing up certainly would. As would many of the “cafeteria” variety who openly object to many Catholic teachings. Don’t count on Catholics learning about such a thing as having the impact you’re hoping it would. Remember up to 90% of Catholics openly flout at least one of the Church’s larger social teachings.
