From The Hill:
A set of new swing-state polls show Mitt Romney making big gains in three critical battleground states just two days after the Republican nominee’s widely-heralded debate performance.

The polls — from conservative-leaning Rasmussen and We Ask America — showed Romney closing the gap or leading in Ohio, Florida and Virginia, three states the GOP candidate would likely need to capture to win the White House. And they represent a dramatic reversal from last week, where polls showed President Obama with a commanding lead.

In Ohio, the We Ask America poll gave Romney a 47-46 percent edge over the president, while Rasmussen flipped those results, giving Obama a 50-49 percent lead. Both polling firms completed the sampling for their survey Thursday, in the aftermath of Wednesday’s shaky debate for the president.
What will be interesting is when Rasmussen comes out with the 3-day average on Sunday.

Remember that Rasmussen was the utterly most accurate poll during the '08 election cycle.

I pray that it shows Romney with 53% or more

Romney was making big gains before the debate, as well.

Obama continues to campaign in states that (some) polls show him to have a double-digit lead in, because even he doesn’t believe those polls.

Exactly.

Every campagin rally takes time and costs money and he would not be in Virginia now if the internal polls showed he was in a significant lead, he would be in another state where he is lower in the polls

Romney has been greatly outspent in these states by the Obama campaign. I presume this is a campaign tactic, keep your powder dry, let Obama’s burn rate hit the roof and then go in with their own campaign. While I can’t guess whether or not this is the right thing to do, I think the polls currently express the level of advertising.

The key is the undecideds and my thought is maybe Romney was waiting until AFTER the debate to see what issues arose, what worked, what the take aways were and then tailor the ad campaign.

As a Romney supporter from 08 I admit to feeling so demoralized by the polls when it made no sense and when people in those states would call talk shows and say the polls did not reflect what they were seeing: number of signs, bumper stickers, activity at headquarters etc. Hugh Hewitt is an Ohio native and has lots of contacts there. He has continued to be optimistic although Ohio seemed to be the toughest nut to crack with the big unions in certain parts of the state.

Speaking of, does anyone else think that Ohio logo with the Obama O on each side looks like Groucho Marx glasses? It creeps me out…I keep expecting the “eyes” to start spinning in circles.

$100 million plus negative ads from the Obama campaign have not been successful looking at swing state polls

Yup. And even Obama’s funds are finite.

At this point what can they do in swing states? Commercials 24 hours per day?

All that, and the polls (for now) appear tied.

What happens when Romney goes over 50, and all the “undecideds” jump on the “I want to vote for the winner” bandwagon?

It does appear he’s spent a lot of money for little result. All political gurus say the “undecideds” generally have decided they don’t like the incumbent enough to say yes but are waiting to be wooed by the challenger. In general undecideds break for the challenger. As one person put it, if someone asked you if you were sure or “undecided” whether your marriage would last another year, if you say “undecided” it means the marriage is in deep trouble…all done but the shouting as they say.

Still I worry both about voter fraud and about the early voting where someone might vote for Obama because he/she has seen a lot of anti-Romney ads and hasn’t seen the counter argument.

Still it’s good news that an incumbent cannot get a clear and stable majority this late in the game after spending all that money

The undecides have broken for the challenger in every race since 1960 except 2004. I like Romney’s chances.🙂

PS Let me put this in perspective: this means that the undecideds even went for the challenger (Mondale) over RWR. Nuff said. 🙂

I wouldn’t doubt that they are actually hurting Obama, because they are ANNOYING! Every dang commerical is an Obama commercial on Hulu for like the last month. I’m all O’d out. If I never see another Obama commercial again will be too soon.

It’s to be expected given Romney’s performance (and Obama’s lack-there-of) at the debate. The polls released this Sunday will give a better read of the actual bump. Watch for Rasmussen…they are thus far the most accurate.

Rasmussen doesn’t lean conservative just because they use more precision and accuracy, and their swing-state tracking poll is skewed because it includes Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

None of those states are on Romney’s radar screen and for all intense purposes they are must-wins for the president.

As this week begins, the outlook appears promising for Romney. i AM encouraged!
however, we still have over 3 weeks left and some more debates. i pray everyday for Romney and Ryan and for our country.
