Big picture, folks! Getting stuck in a microcosm is like driving through a dense fog. There will be a crash, sooner or later. I’m rather preoccupied with waiting for the birth of our Savior.

I’m going to ask you the same question I asked Fr David. Are you saying that Ed Fesers theory is an example of polygenism?

Do you believe in polygenism?

If everyone stopped believing evolution was true, nothing would happen anywhere.
How do you know, do you see the future?

If it is true and you stop believing in it, then you are rejecting the truth.

As in our other thread when the Church finally decides to reject evolution, then all will be fully justified in rejecting it. Until then we are fully justified in seeking the truth about evolution and believing part of it until we know definitively.

No I don’t believe that it is. Polygenism would suggest that a community collectively obtained eternal souls and that we all descended from that general community - one from this line and another from another line. I believe that all living humans can still trace back to Adam and Eve even if their children mated with other near humans. Genetically it amounts to the same thing, but not spiritually.

Hope, Im not speaking for Fr David, but I didn’t read his comments as saying that. I could be wrong.
I reread the post and I can understand how it can be read that way

And you still believe it’s OK for Catholics to agree with Edward Feser’s theory?

@Hope1960

Why do I get the feeling you’re trying to bait people and not actually dialogue over the OP?

I’m sorry you feel that way. I’m just really worried. I just want to know for sure that Catholics can believe Feser’s theory.

A Priest has already told you, yes, so long as you don’t deny key Catholic dogmas.

The people like edwest who say otherwise are what’s called Young Earth Creationists - they deny the findings of modern science. They are not trustworthy sources.

@FrDavid96 is by far the most trustworthy source who’s replied on this thread. Read what he said again.

Oh, I don’t agree with young earth creationists.

From what I’ve read of Fr. David over a period of time, his advice is sound, but I was thrown off by Edwest211.

Also, I may be misunderstanding Father, and I probably am, but I was wanting to know if he thinks Fesers theory is an example of polygenism,
And if Father believes in polygenism, which Catholics aren’t allowed.

You mean Fesers theory is an acceptable view and is not polygenism, right?

(name removed by moderator)
This is an acceptable view and it is NOT polygenism.

Hope 1960, what is your point? If it is to promote that Dr Feser originated this idea. He didnt

Yes, I just want to make sure that believing in Feser’s theory is OK with the Church and that it’s not polygenism. That’s all.

  1. Catholics aren’t allowed to believe in polygenism
  2. The theory proposed by Feser is not polygenism
  3. The theory proposed by Feser is acceptable to be held by a Catholic and be faithful to the magesterium
  4. You do not have to believe this particular theory but are free to.

In your point #3, are you saying that it’s OK for Catholics to believe in Feser’s theory?

Deacon Jeff was very explicit obout that. He said it was not polygenism.
