Along with aquinas, Augustine. Therese,Edith Stein, John Paul the Great, B16, and 2,000 years worth of catholic scholars, Church Fathers and Doctors of the Church.

So let me see- should I keep my head in the sand with these people or join tm8 in supporting policies that have led to death and misery on a worldwide scale.?

You must be refering to the alleged posts that got me sat in the Corner-HOWEVER those posts were WASHED AWAY in the great crach and I return with an UNBLEMISHED record!😃

If a person is taught to be responsible and abstinent and they choose to be irresposible, why do you think it is your business to get involved?

That will leave faithful (head in the sand) Catholics the only survivors. 🙂 You wouldn’t like that much would you?
You got it all figured out. That is great. Now put your head back in the sand. Oh ya, the next time you get a blood transfusion, remember AIDS kills. The next time you gripe about your undercooked steak at a restaurant and tell the waiter to take it back, make sure he doesn’t spit on it because AIDS Kills. The next time you have a friend or relative who gets AIDS and can’t figure out how it happened, remember you didn’t want to get involved.
Ask the Pope if he wants only faithful Catholics to survive. If you aren’t surprised by his answer, I will be.

Hmmm! That evoked quite a response. At this point all blood is screened for AIDS, which mostly likely would not have been necessary had everyone practiced absitinence and chastity. This alone is quite costly in terms of dollars.

What you are saying is you want lots of money (taxpayers who may or may not agree with you) to fund deviant behavior, to protect everyone else from the effects of this behavior. Do you see the conflict?

Breaking news!!! People will die of one thing or the other!!!

I guess that you want the magic pill like a lot of other people in this world.

I want the pill that cures me from obesity because I love to eat,
I want the pill that makes me non-fertile because I want to have sex without any responsibility,
I want a pill that fixes my lungs because I want to smoke as much as I like,
I want a vaccine for my daughter HIP in this way she can sleep around,
I want a pill that cures me from AIDS because I want to do drugs or have non responsible sexual behaviors,
I want a pill that cures me from the hangover,
I want a pill that cures me from Herpes in this way I can have non responsible sexual behaviors,
I want a pill that helps me breathe in this smog while I am driving my SUV,
I want a pill that cures my cancer while I am pumping tons of chemicals in my lawn because I like it green,
I want a pill …

Prevention of diseases is the best cure!!! You can just use the scientific approach without use of religion to understand that the Church teachings make sense.

People will die no matter what. People will suffer. What it matters is how they choose to live.

If my response is quite a response to you, get over it! I always react strongly to Ignorance.🙂
What is your problem with money. I don’t recall saying anything about wanting lots of money from anyone. I will tell you that I donate to charities that advocate abstinence AND safe sex. I also donate to AIDS research and the HRC. Do you see a conflict?

Perhaps you don’t want money, but the policies you advocate require lots of it, for a bandaid approach. It’s easy to spend other peoples money isn’t it now? Most non-ignorant people try to fix problems at there root. That doesn’t seem so with you.

What stops you form sending all of your money to the abstinence charities?

Where did you get this stuff? I don’t need pills for any of those conditions. Do you? If I had a daughter I would have her get the vaccination but that’s none of your business. I hope you are happy with your life choices, but it sure sounds like you are seriously angry about something. Maybe you should talk to your priest.

I don’t send money to abstinence only charities because I figure people like you send then enough. I like to cover all the bases. Not just the ones that the church pushes.

🙂 Do you send money to planned parenthood, too?

If you got all that stuff from my posts, you must need help reading!
Maybe I can’t see because I am ignorant, or maybe I am ignorant because I cannot see. Probably the latter because my head is in the sand, but then again Buffaloes don’t stick their head in the sand. 😃

Ahhh - I see now that my universal translator needs readjustment.

Prove it’s one of those 1 in 100,000 freak chances and not a miracle.

– Mark L. Chance.
It is parsimonious to say that such an event is the cause of natural causes, not the intervention of God. Thus, we have the burden of proof from making an extraordinary claim.

WARNING

The charity level in this thread is a little less than what it should be. A friendly reminder that name calling and questioning the motives of others is not allowed. Let’s clean it up, folks. Thanks.

I guess you missed my point. As you might have noticed I did not say that you personally need a ton of pills for the several problems. My point is the increasing lack of reality and sense of personal responsibility in the western culture. I have noticed it with the approach in trying to find a fix for things that we decided to pursue when we knew that the risk factor was high and the pay back very low. This appears to me very close to the approach of the people that are willing to sue someone else for not stopping them from being idiots and hurting themselves.

If you are a catholic you believe that there is a natural law, that this world in imperfect (suffering) because of the original sin, that we must make moral choices to prepare for the ethernal life. It is impossible to cover all the bases, it sounds to me like someone that is betting at the same time on both red and black at the roulette table. The best it can happen is to break even, the worst is to loose.

I think that the personal attacks and name calling are another emerging aspect of the western culture. A culture where the art of argumentation, the good old rethoric, is disappearing. I have noticed it a lot in so called public debates from so called educated experts.

I see your point of trying to optimize the odds for specific situations; however sometime it is easier to miscalculate the probabilities and it is better not to bet at all.

That sounds to me like assumption that the event is the cause of natural causes. An assumption also is not acceptable as a scientific proof. If you look at historical facts, how can you prove that a miracle happened? You cannot! A miracle is by definition is the most improbable event while historical analysis of recent or ancient events is the acceptance of the most probable cause as source of the event itself. Thus the contradiction in the methodology of trying to use the most improbable event as the most probable cause comes up. Prof. Bart D. Ehrman (Historian @ Chapel Hill) has a good discussion in one of his works. I apologize that I cannot provide a reference now but a google search could help.

From your profile I see that you are a young man seriously interested in science and independent thinking. Be strong in your opinions, always double check your facts, and never hesitate to say that you are wrong. I have seen a lot of scientist changing their minds about theories and they have been able to become even better scientist. I also saw some scientist loosing their public credibility for sticking to their egoes instead of saying that they were wrong. You sound quite intelligent, keep it simple and keep challenging people toughts.

Well, if we don’t have an explanation, why must the supernatural explanation win by default? All it means is that we don’t know the exact mechanism. But of course, it is probably hard to “prove” a supernatural mechanism and conversely a natural mechanims.

I thank you for your thoughtful comments. You are correct by stating: “Be strong in your opinions, always double check your facts, and never hesitate to say that you are wrong. I have seen a lot of scientist changing their minds about theories and they have been able to become even better scientist.” Science is not dogmatism, one must readily admit that they are wrong if they are wrong. This, of course, allows scientific investigation to progress instead of being mired by incorrect data. In science, evidence is essential.
