I have not lived in the City of St. Louis for some time, but as near as I can tell, the population removal, commercialization, and gentrification that actually began with the Mill Creek project in Truman’s time is still ongoing. The population is slowly moving north out of the city itself into places like Ferguson and Florissant.
 
Which is what everyone said when there was a hysteric push to ban bump-stocks. Those in the know can make them in their garage. But we just had to push to ban them. I wonder what effect that has had?
 
This must be a cultural thing as I find the thought of giving any 10 year old a gun somewhat disturbing. Dressing them up as toys by using colours which appeal to children is even worse.
 
Nevertheless, the statement that “liberals and Democrats” do not help others nor participate in ways to clean up their communities is outlandish.

The government of St. Louis City is also unusual, and has been for decades.
 
Partisanship serves its purpose best when the people on the other side of the aisle can be cast as devils. To concede any common humanity to your opponent is the greatest of sins in the partisan age.

And yes, that goes for both sides. Both have made a habit of following their own worst impulses, and then oddly proclaiming that only their opponents possess such impulses.

I’m not clear what that has to do with the power that the US holds. Yes, it’s likely in some insane world where the US government becomes a tyranny, rebel militias could hole up and, like the French Resistance, cause some harm, but if even the might of the Confederacy in the mid-19th century couldn’t hold back the power of the US government, the Jeffersonian notion that the people could hope to defeat a tyrannical US government is absurd. And even the Founding Fathers to some degree exaggerated things. Without the aid of the French, all this talk of arms in the hands of Patriots would have ultimately been for naught. And honestly, it’s an awfully good thing for the US that the French Revolution happened, preventing what would likely have been the French calling in their favors upon a young republic that had scarce coin to pay for muskets.

How about attempting to avoid such blatant changing the goalposts? We are talking about the US, here and now! And no one can protect you from a determined suicide bomber.
 
I live in the St. Louis Metro Area. People are leaving the city for the county in droves. The city of St. Louis is nothing to write home about. We are losing businesses, tourism, our public schools are a mess.
 
This does not nullify the fact that the Mayor has put effort into cleaning up the city.
 
I just question her efforts so far. There are issues with trash pick up, recycling, etc.

Again, most of my direct knowledge is dated, but I have a friend living downtown who tells me some of what it’s like. And too, I have at times visited my old neighborhood on Pershing near DeBaliviere and nearby places.

The population keeps dropping, but it’s the black population. The white, Asian and Latino populations are gaining. St. Louis City, it seems to me, is undergoing a slow process of commercialization and gentrification that has been going on for decades. There seems to be a deliberate purpose of driving people out into northern neighborhoods in the county.

And, um, I have no idea whether the current mayor has any relationship to the, uh, “organization” that runs south St. Louis, but there have been plenty of leaders in St. Louis who have.
