JPII had more impact, I’ll agree. But he had over 20 years to do it. And he made some mistakes too. Many of those who bash Pope Benedict are still not used to the fact that he is different from JPII. I wouldn’t call either one “better”, just different.

Pope Benedict has only been Pope a few years. While I have not always understood his methods, I have been so happy with his leadership.
Eh… I just thought some of the things he said ranged more towards nutjob, like the thing about Harry Potter being evil. That just screams idiotic.

Of course, you’ve just entirely bought into the media spin. The Pope didn’t call Harry Potter “evil”. When he was still a Cardinal, he praised the author of a book who pointed out difficulties with the book’s treatment of good and evil.

His comments were very short and mild:

"Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger

Esteemed and dear Ms. Kuby!

Many thanks for your kind letter of February 20th and the informative book which you sent me in the same mail. It is good, that you enlighten people about Harry Potter, because those are subtle seductions, which act unnoticed and by this deeply distort Christianity in the soul, before it can grow properly.

I would like to suggest that you write to Mr. Peter Fleetwood, (Pontifical Council of Culture, Piazza S. Calisto 16, I00153 Rome) directly and to send him your book.

Sincere Greetings and Blessings,
  • Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger"

I don’t know too many people who don’t like the Pope. A lot of the people I know can’t stand Cardinal Martino. He really makes the church look bad with all his crazy statements, but I think the Pope is very diplomatic.
Bishop Martino is one of the strong Bishops I admire along with Chaput and others who aren’t afraid of politicos and aren’t trying to win a popularity contest such as Malooley who refuses to protect the Eucharist from sacrilege…

As for as our Pope in Rome, I have nothing but praise for him. He is bringing the Church back from the brink of relativism and secularism.
