From what I gather from the article this is just a Rabbi speculating on what the Pope will do. Granted, it’s a Rabbi who knows Pope Francis personally and is basing this opinion on opinions he expressed before his election.

I look forward to the archives being opened so that the world can have as much information as possible on this subject. If I’m not mistaken this is slated to occur in a few years even if the Pope doesn’t decide to make an exception and open them early.

The idea that Venerable Pope Pius XII was pro-nazi, anti-semitic, or in anyway “silent” when it came to the holocaust is utter historical revisionism and communist propaganda. I’m not sure what this will improve on the image of Pius XII since any bad image of him is based on nothing but media smear campaign wholly removed from historical fact but based on willful lies and distortion. The works of Ronald Rychlak reveal this.

Edit: this is the pro-abortion, pro-sodomy rabbi who recently got his second honorary degree from a so-called catholic university.

Actually, I’d say Rychlak’s book depicts Pius XII as inept.

What does this ad hominem attack have to do with anything?

That’s a funny take away from the book. However it “depicted” Pius XII, it is a matter of historical fact that the Catholic Church under Pius XII saved by far more Jews than any other organization in WW2 europe. Rychlak’s book demonstrated that the smear campaign that began in the 1960s against Pius XII beginning with the play “the deputy” was completely backed by communists, thereby demonstrating that the negative image of Pius XII professed by some is nothing but historical revisionism wholly outside of fact.

Just getting the facts out on on “catholic” universities. Whether or not the Rabbi knows the facts concerning Pius XII or he is merely a historical revisionist is another matter.

Interesting that during the war, the NY Times praised Pius XII in an editorial as a lone voice against Nazism. And after the war, the chief Rabbi of Rome converted to Catholicism. Pius XII was universally praised from WW-II up until 1973, when a scurrilous play engaged in revisionist calumny.

IIRC, wasn’t it financed by the East Germans?

That’s not what’s in dispute.

You do know that most scholars of the Holocaust are a bit brighter than those accepting a play’s perspective of the pontiff, right?

Ad hominem attacks never lead to “the facts.”

Is it just location location location? The timing of the attacks is interesting. Was Pope Pius XII in your opinion inept?
