He resigned the “rights and privileges” of a Cardinal, but not the title itself.
Net effect is that he may not attend a Conclave, Consistory, or take part in roman curial activities.

The number of Catholics who have been cardinals in the history of the Church is a very, very tiny percentage of Catholics. There were for centuries only 70 in the whole world. Pray for them, it is a position that makes you target for lots of enemies…especially today.I don’t know what it all means, but one pastor once pointed out there are very few men who died as Cardinals who ever became canonized.
