I listened to his sermon on EWTN this morning as I was getting ready for Mass, and it was very moving, I thought, when taken in the context of the persecution the Pope is undergoing right now. And he definitely did all but say that yes, the Shroud is authentic. After the Mass, EWTN showed an excellent program on the Shroud that definitely supports the idea that this cloth was used to cover a crucified man, and that all his wounds completely match those wounds suffered by our Lord.

I guess no one with authority could say 100% that his cloth covered our Crucified Lord, but if it didn’t, it was used for someone who suffered at the same time and in the same way as our Lord. Seems like more than a coincidence to me.
