Once again, the Catholic Church must save Protestantism from itself.
They who permitted their own congregations to use contraception, and taught that it was not a sin to do so, and those who council that abortion is not always murder, and who ordain homosexual priests and Bishops - they are the ones who caused this whole problem with the HHS mandate. They are the ones who caused the whole need for their self proclaimed “Spiritual war” to preserve religious liberty.
The Protestant Churches permitted contraception and abortion in the first place, and now they hide behind the Holy Father’s cassock when religious liberty is threatened, cheering about how conservative the Pope is and that the Bishops will be the saviors of the world. Now Catholicism is left to defeat the HHS mandate, and when we do so, the Protestant Churches will cheer that it is a victory for the first ammendment and for religious freedom.
But guess what?
They didn’t listen to the Bishops and the Holy Father when the Anglican Church began teaching that contraception was not a sin in 1930. They didn’t listen to the Bishops and the Holy Father when Humanae Vitae came out in 1968. They didn’t listen to the Bishops and the Holy Father when abortion was legalized in the United States in 1970. And they will not listen after this fight is over, when the Holy Catholic Church says again, “Abortion is murder and contraception is a sin.” They will go right back to teaching their congregations that it is OK to get vasecomies and that dismembering infants and sucking their body parts into jars is not a grave evil.
They won’t listen, and they won’t repent, and they won’t admit that the Holy Father and the Holy Catholic Church was right all along, because it is not about religious liberty, but about sin and the fact that their congregations are being lied to.
