The elder son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has called on Pope Benedict XVI to convert to Islam immediately, dismissing last week’s apology from the pontiff for offending Muslims.

“If this person were really someone reasonable, he would not agree to remain at his post one minute, but would convert to Islam immediately,” Mohammed Gaddafi told an awards ceremony on Monday evening for an international competition to memorise the Qur’an.

Wow. What a profound response by Gaddafi, Jr. to the academic speech Pope Benedict made. In fact, it sounds like a rich intellectual environment over there in Libya with their “memorize the Quran” contests and whatnot.

Would you like to explain the above post, for this dense, old, senior citizen? I must have missed something somewhere.
 
If you read the link with the full article, Quadaffi Jr. says all of those things.

Sure. It is to laugh - as ridiculous a suggestion as asking an Islamic clergyman to convert to Catholicism. Gaddafi ought to know that any true believer just doesn’t switch religions.

I don’t think the Pope was 'asked" to convert to Islam as much as he was TOLD to. Quite a way to get converts.

I had read on another forum that it is policy to ask (read: TELL) a person to convert to Islam before one kills him; you see, if you have offered someone the chance to convert, and he does not, then you as a Muslim are somehow justified in killing him since he is a nonbeliever. Again, I do not know if this is a fact, it is something that I read here in the forums.

If this is so, it is chilling in that it virtually announces that Benedict is ‘on their list’ as a candidate for assassination.

Well, it’s only hearsay, as you imply. Better if that person on that other Forum had given some hard source that others could check.
 
It means it’s okay to kill him if he doesn’t. It is common knowledge, but google it if you want. Same reason they told America it should convert. It’s like the kiss of death. :mad: And it ain’t funny.

I was the poster who made that statement on another thread. I got the information from a documentary about bin Laden on the Discovery Channel. It said that one of the criticisms of bin Laden after 9/11 by other jihadists was that he did not invite the West to convert before the attack, which apparently Muslims are compelled to do according to Muhammed’s teachings. That’s why it was so alarming several weeks ago when the al-Zawahari and “Azzam the American” tape came out. They were “inviting” the West to accept Islam. I think we can expect all attempted attacks on Western targets to be preceded by these kinds of “invitations” from now on.
