Pope Benedict arrived in Lebenon this morning

This trip was planned well in advance of the recent violence in this region. There was talk (rumors) that this trip could be cancelled for safety reasons, but he came.

A snippet of what he has said so far:
“Let me assure you that I pray especially for the many people who suffer in this region,” he said.
“The successful way the Lebanese all live together surely demonstrates to the whole Middle East and to the rest of the world that, within a nation, there can exist cooperation between the various churches and at the same time coexistence and respectful dialogue between Christians and their brethren of other religions.”

I just finished watching a show about Lebanese Catholics. If I can track it down, I’ll post that as well.
 
His opening speech was beautiful:

“I have come to Lebanon as a pilgrim of peace, as a friend of God and as a friend of men. … Looking beyond your country, I also come symbolically to all the countries of the Middle East as a pilgrim of peace, as a friend of God and as a friend of all the inhabitants of all the countries of the region, whatever their origins and beliefs. … Your joys and sorrows are constantly present in the Pope’s prayers and I ask God to accompany you and to comfort you. Let me assure you that I pray especially for the many people who suffer in this region…”

I am also praying for the Holy Father’s safety and ability to be an instrument of peace in a troubled region. Two of the doctors at our clinic were born and raised in Lebanon. It is such a wonderful country with wonderful people. I hope the violence and anti-western sentiment does not take hold there.

There could be no better example of “be not afraid” as our Holy Father refused to cancel the trip due to concerns about his own safety.

Our precious Holy Father is so vulnerable there. May Our Lady protect him from harm by her intercession.

Me too. The local news station here hasn’t said very much about his visit. They’re mostly focused on the mess going on in other Moslem countries.

Idiotic rioters-they always get their knickers in knots whenever their ‘prophet’ is mocked, even in a stupid way as the video seems to indicate.

Well, we Catholics don’t trash embassies and kill diplomats when Our Lord is outraged in the media! I wish we could get mad when it happens, but we don’t loot and burn property!

Holy Father, please be safe in Lebanon and return home to Rome safe, too! May Our Lady of Lebanon protect you, and St. Michael the Archangel defend you!

I saw heard on cable that pope Benedict was going to have lunch with 100 bishop, priests and seminarians. They also report that he has not mention the tradegy in libya. Dear Blessed Mother please continue to protect Pope Benedict that he continue to have a good trip
