He is a world leader who failed utterly and miserably on this topic in public opinion. Unfortunately, that fact has overshadowed his successes, in the media. But that is the nature of it.
 
It was on page 3 in The Toronto Star today as well. All innuendo, opinion and rumours. But that still won’t stop the very anti Catholic Star from putting it on A-3.
 
He is retiring because of one thing. He is getting old and is not strong enough to carry out the vocation to its fullest. Simples. God bless him I say.

But this forum isn’t “public opinion” or “secular media.” It’s Catholic Answers. And we as Catholics should not be shaken by scandal. Having many posts on the same issue such as this could scandalize the folks who are questioning their faith, let alone the one coming to the Church. We should by no means “censor” the threads, but we should not have thread after thread discussing the same topics, they become too numerous.

It looks like the same story but not sure if it is really, because similar has been running in the Spanish-language press today.

Also, see how Cardinal Dolan is being questioned, those could be anti-Catholic sources too. Saw this in the Spanish-language press first as well.

Of course that’s good advice. But we should know what the adversary is saying so we counter their arguments with reasonable retorts.
 
I wonder how old he would have to be before anti-Catholics would admit that he could actually be retiring for the reason of being too old to adequately carry out his duties.

The man has been Pope for 8 years now. If someone had dirt on him, they could have blackmailed him into retiring LONG before now.
 
Supposedly the three cardinals who prepared the report will be allowed to present their findings to the full College of Cardinals in advance of the papal election.

So, if there is something very damning in there (whether a “lavender Mafia” or something else), we can expect a pretty… interesting… time. Perhaps an unusually long election, or an unusually quick one, perhaps culminating, either way, in the election of a dark horse Pope.

I wouldn’t be totally surprised, by the way, if there was at least some truth to this claim, or at least some truth to the claim that there is something awry in the Curia. The Church’s history is marked by periods of corruption/degeneration and repentance/renewal, and it seems to me we’re at the tail end of the former now. And, of course, sexual perversion of various sorts have often characterized just those sorts of periods. I know everyone wants to believe the best about our prelates but, you know, their funny red hats don’t inoculate them against sin.
 
I think a lot or most of these stories are taking from some newspaper in Italy called “Repubblica” for whatever kind of newspaper that is. No idea. And no idea how the Politician Berlusconi stands on these issues.

I’m always one to encourage a healthy distrust of leftist media sources, but we should bear in mind this isn’t the first time these sorts of allegations have come up. Fr. Dariusz Oko (not a leftist) wrote about it recently, in an article that got him in a bit of trouble (e.g., he called it the “homoheresy”). And of course we have some of Benedict’s rather cryptic remarks on the greatest threat to the Church being not the wolves outside of it but “sin” within it. And we know, too, of the errors that resulted in the admission of many homosexual men to seminaries in the 70s and 80s. This is another reason why, I said before, I wouldn’t be surprised if this, or something like it, were actually true.

So, again, if there is any truth to this claim (and the article suggests there isn’t), it may have an interesting effect on the outcome of the election!

well, if there is anything to the reports, let it be investigated and let them clean house.

if there is truth to this report, the next Pope will have to deal with it.
