Pope Benedict Certifies the Council – The Real One
Rome - 19th. February 2006 - Chiesa Article
“Why has the reception of the Council been so difficult for such a great portion of the Church up until now?”
And he replied:
“The problems have arisen from a struggle between two conflicting forms of interpretation. One of these has caused confusion; the other, in a silent but
increasingly visible way, has brought results, and continues to bring them.”
He called the first form of interpretation “the hermeneutics of discontinuity and rupture.” The second he called “the hermeneutics of reform.”

What is with this "pope Joseph Ratzinger " she keeps using ?

Sandro Magister is actually a guy. Other articles from his blog have also been a bit loopy. I don’t have a lot trust in what he writes.

The custom in Italian circles is to refer to the Pope with his last name like Papa Roncalli.

A bit late coming back to you GF, but thank you for the above. Your comments are noted and since I need to cull my reading matter anyway, I’ll start with Sandro Magister…thank you!🙂

“Why has the reception of the Council been so difficult for such a great portion of the Church up until now?”
Well, it’s mostly because this was an attempt by the council to modernize itself, something past popes didn’t like, and included many who were not part of the faith beginning to define things that are a part of our faith into vaguries so that ecuminism could be possible (As Pope Benedict tries to ilustrate with relating to the Greeks). One of those men, as far as I know, Kung, someone Ratzinger worked with, have since been excommunicated I believe. Pope Benedict has distanced himself and feels regret for some of the things he did, which is why I feel he has strongly defended the Church as the head of the Doctrine of Faith (Inquisition). The vaguries were entirely troublesome and left the Church teachings open to exploitation. Only with real background knowledge of our faith could things be interpreted correctly.

That, and as well, the strategy of the Church opening up to the world so we can spread the faith seems to have backfired, and instead the world is beginning to invade the Church. I feel it is time for a ‘Vatican III’ and a return to more orthodoxy. It’s the best method.

or perhaps Vatican IIB… which the Pope has started with his first encyclical on Love… a truly great work. He will straighten things out I hope.

Let’s see… IIB,… or not IIB… (sorry)

I tend to think and hope, pray, that if anyone can sort out The Church it will be Pope Benedict…but then we need to be listening to what he has to say and implementing it…his encyclical on Love is a good start since love is the heart of The Church. I thought it most courageos and insightful, revolutionary, to write the encyclical in the context of both agape and eros…about time. I was overjoyed with Cardinal Ratzinger was elected Pope and really expect great things from him and his first encyclical gave me even more reason for hope…
