Pope Benedict XVI appoints Bishop Chito Tagle as Manila Archbishop

I am so glad about Pope Benedict’s choice for the new archbishop of Manila…Bishop Tagle.

I watch his show The Word Exposed every Sunday and am amazed at the insights I get from it for the readings in the mass. I recently started a thread about his television program a few weeks ago hoping that it can help others as much it has helped me.

How wonderful to learn just now that he has been appointed as our new archbishop.

I am also proud of our still current and definitely much loved archbishop Rosales. He is such a humble man who was helped so many. He raised up much needed funds to help the poor through his many programs.

I am very hopeful that Bishop Tagle will be a good archbishop of Manila as his predecessors.

To be honest, the only time I watch Bishop Tagle is when I watch the program The Word Exposed on Sundays. The bible passages and gospel are timeless, I sometimes watch past episodes as well to be able to learn something about our faith. Many episodes are posted on youtube.

For me, there is much gratefulness and awe at the work that was done by our beloved Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, a humble holy man who did much for God, His church and his people.

I feel anticipation and hope that our new Archbishop will continue the wonderful work of his predecessor in his own unique way.

I hope he continues the standards of his predecessors. With a renegade in Malacanan, we can’t afford any weakness. Let not what happened in the United States happen in the Old Country as well.

I do have high hopes that our new archbishop will be a strong and effective voice to bring out our Church’s stand especially on controversial issues like the RH bill and the Divorce bill.

In front of the cathedral, there will be a civic reception by the mayors of the five cities covered by the archdiocese—Manila, Pasay, Makati, Mandaluyong and San Juan. The mayors, Malicdem said, will hand over to Tagle the symbolic keys to their cities “signifying the cooperation and collaboration of Church and civic authorities in the promotion of the common good and the pursuit of peace and justice.”

In another forum here at CAF, the questions were raised as to which countries were considered Catholic, and what makes a Catholic country. I am not sure if those questions were fully resolved, but I am pretty sure the Philippines counts as a Catholic country.
