Absolutely, no offence, to other poster’s answers but could someone please tell me what is the difference between a liberal and conservative Pope. Thanks
I already saw a comment, posted by a newbie, about that issue on a conservative website. Seems like such people are making their way to spam. Not yet, no official reason apart from his health - unless you want to listen to the ‘BBC’ ‘make-it-up-as-you-go-along’ version, then it’s to do with the stress caused by his ‘mishandling of the sex abuse scandal’!Will they ever give it a rest.
Tell me about it! I woke up this morning and checked the news like I usually do and then have been freaking out since then. I loved him so much. He was such a great Pope.I just learned of this and my mind is utterly blown.
Yes, it is God’s will. It’s just not easy to part with him. Obviously.I was shocked and saddened to hear of Pope Benedicts abdication.
However - I have massive respect for him and so I realise that, if he feels he is not physically up to the role, then we should accept that.
For a long time now, he has been too weak to walk the length of St Peters Basilica, and has had to be brought to mass on a wheeled platform. He has also been seen walking with a stick for support.
I have seen in speak in person, twice. Once in Glasgow in 2010, (UK Papal Visit), and once in Rome in 2012 (a Papal General Audience). On both occasions - although his speeches were excellent - it was obvious that long speeches were a real effort for him. He seemed to struggle with coughing and a dry throat, often needing pauses to rest and for water to be brought for him to drink.
No-one knows his own condition better than him, and so we have to respect and support his decision. I don’t think many people expected his Pontificate to last as long as it has, so we have been lucky to have him for so long.
I sincerely hope his health situation means he has at least some time left to enjoy the company of his loved ones and his favourite things - Mozart, books, pianos and cats.
We love you Pope Benedict, thank you for everything and may God bless you.
My pick (If I may be so bold!) as the successor would be Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith (a Sri-Lankan) - see my post on the “shortlist” thread, as to why.
Amen. We love you, Holy Father. My dear brothers and sisters in our Faith. Our Lord has stretched out his hand and guided our beloved Holy Father to his decision to abdicate the Papacy. He may be frail physically, but we can see that spiritually he has never been stronger. May our Lord rest his healing hand upon the Holy Father and guide him now to a well deserved and peaceful retirement. Blessings upon him.
I understand that but this wouldn’t really affect his qalification or selection to be Pope. It would be terrible if things got worse there because he’s the Pope (not sure it would anyway) but if he’s chosen as Pope then this is the will of God.Turkson’s from Ghana. I would fear Nigeria might get hit with more terrorism if the Holy Father was from Nigeria.

Fratres carissimi
BENEDICTUS PP XVI
I think Cardinal Arinze would be ideal, but the North of Nigeria is in flames, Boko Harum are just very mean people so it would be a concern of mine as a Catholic, think we have a right to express ourselves without being ridiculed or mocked.I understand that but this wouldn’t really affect his qalification or selection to be Pope. It would be terrible if things got worse there because he’s the Pope (not sure it would anyway) but if he’s chosen as Pope then this is the will of God.
Are you saying I mocked you or are you refering to the Boko Haram?I think Cardinal Arinze would be ideal, but the North of Nigeria is in flames, Boko Harum are just very mean people so it would be a concern of mine as a Catholic, think we have a right to express ourselves without being ridiculed or mocked.
