😃 Good one.

Speaking of his twitter, I wonder what will happen to his account. Maybe the new Pope will have one?
Pope Benedict chose a generic handle: @pontifex. He could have chose @benedictxvi or some such, but he didn’t.

So I imagine the Twitter account will pass on to the next pope, along with the keys to the Kingdom and the charism of infallibility. šŸ™‚

What if his resignation is not accepted?
The Pope is the Supreme Authroity in the Church. There is no one to whom he submits his resignation and no one who has to accept it (nor anyone whose refusal to accept it would be in any way meaningful). He has but to announce it freely and it is so.

Thank you for posting that. This is further confirmation that we need to trust his successorship. One article I read pointed out that the current College of Cardinals reflects BXVI’s own orthodoxy and perspective. It would be diffcult to believe that any man not in agreement with his overall vision will succeed him. Again, as I said earlier, he himself foreshadowed this day very explicitly, referring to the possibility of resigning in the near future.

I have my own preferences, but my opinion is irrelevant, as is the opinion of every other Catholic. We should all leave it in the Holy Spirit’s hands. šŸ™‚

I have to laugh at the ā€œsurprisedā€ clergy and staff reports. This was no surprise. Ratzinger was chosen as a short term Pope. He was a placeholder that would buy time as the Cardinals reorganized, giving the chance for a leader to emerge from South America or Africa. That’s where the next Pope will come from.

Read online (believe it to be reliable site) that the current Pope relinquishes that title along with the office, thus he does not become ā€œPope Emeritusā€ but instead will revert to ā€œCardinal Ratzingerā€.

Could you please provide us with the link?

He was only considered a ā€œshort termā€ Pope due to his age when he got elected in the Conclave. Everyone was surprised he resigned considering it hasn’t been done in almost 600 years.

I want to cry, he was such a big inspiration to me! Why does he have to go? :crying:
I understand, and I agree. My sympathy reaches out to you in your pain. šŸ™‚

However, the Holy Spirit gave us this Pope (and all Popes before him). It is time for faith and trust, knowing in our hearts that God is in control. šŸ™‚

I had a bad feeling when I saw him at yesterdays’ Angelus prayer. It’s a shock to wake up to this but then again, it’s in line with his character. He probably wouldn’t want to manage the Vatican in such bad health because of all the consequences it might bring.

… Still can’t believe it but at least, he isn’t dead or going to die during office.

That would have been the worst news to wake up to.

Dear Papa, you’re certainly your own person.

Indeed. I will trust in the Holy Spirit, knowing that He gave us this Pope, and He will give us a worthy successor.

I will pray for Pope Benedict, as well as his potential successor. May God bless and protect them both.

Perfect post:thumbsup:

A twitter handle could be changed anyways.

For a little historical perspective, just yesterday I was was listening to a Catholic Answers Live radio program with Jimmy Aiken where he stated that Pope Pius XII had written a letter of resignation to be effective if he was taken prisoner by the Nazis.

I think good Popes will always consider what is best for the Church over their personal desires. The bad Popes like the Medicis and Borgias were more interested in things other than the good of the Church.
