The article, a small snippet, in the context of what the Cardinal says, points to focusing on the positive things rather than “condemning this or that.” I don’t think he means the Church’s policy toward contraception should be overhauled; but I may be wrong.
The “softly-softly” approach is the reason why many do not come for confession.

I think you are correct. The cardinal was speaking about not framing the discussion in terms of condemning. He is not encouraging a reversal in Catholic moral teaching.

I should really start collecting some of these misleading headlines so I can go back and read through them when I need a good chuckle. 😛

Does anyone know if Benedict the XVI will have a full traditional funeral when he passes? Will he be lying in repose and have a set number of days of morning?
Honestly, I don’t think anyone knows a whole lot about any of these sorts of things just yet. This is a completely new situation for the Church in the modern world.

I do not think we will have answers to many of these questions until we see how it actually plays out.

Supposedly, he’s reverting back to Cardinal Ratzinger, so I doubt it.

I am curious, too, but this is a bit soon. Just my opinion.

I understand the intellectual nature of your question, but take it easy! LOL One step at a time.

What if the conclave picks BXVI is elected again?
In theory they could, but they’d be stupid to given he has just resigned, so they won’t.

He could and would refuse to accept the position if they did, meaning they’d go back and vote again for somebody else, so it sold be a wasted effort to try it.

I expect that, when God decides to call him back, Pope Benedict will be entitled to, if not the kind of funeral we saw with JPII, then something very close. While I don’t know that crowd demands would necessarily require a funeral mass in St. Peter’s square, an indoor funeral mass of equal splendor could be quite likely.

The crowds will probably be less. In the case of the death of a former Pope, the funeral will not be followed by a conclave. Yet no doubt there will still be millions that shed tears around the world. I have a special devotion to Bl. John Paul that may never be equalled, but still love our dear Holy Father.

FOX NEWS just reported that Pope Benedict XVI has a pacemaker and that the battery
has just been changed, BTW, did you hear that the Vatican got hit TWICE by lighting?

It’s just the progressive interpretation of the last 20 centuries of **infallible **Catholic doctrine that states contraception is a mortal sin!

It was a very brave decision for the Pope, but he knows best. Upsetting, but I hope he enjoys a gentler, less stressful retirement.
