(CBS) NEW YORK CBS 2 has learned that Pope Benedict XVI is planning to visit New York City for a trip to the United Nations.

There is no date scheduled for the visit just yet, but the United Nations confirmed that Secretary General Ban Ki-moon met with the Pope and extended an invitation for the visit, to which the Pope agreed.

Only a short subway ride from Brooklyn!!! I’m kinda excited here 😃

New York? Never visited but it might be nice if he goes to Washington DC. Then I would go.

No way.

New York City is nuts on a “normal” day. With Pope Benedict visiting, you will have every Secular Relativist protester there to make a scene.
That’s not true, NY is not nuts on a regular day I am there every single day. And you will not have every Secular Relativist protester making a scene. When John Paul II was here it was wonderfull and he was here twice, no protesters,
I can’t wait for Pope Benedict to come I was so excited when I heard about it this morning.

If I was closer to New York City, I would try to come.

Thread drift - I was saddened that JPII was never invited to Pittsburgh. He visited Pittsburgh twice as Cardinal Archbishop of Krakow, and there is a plaque commemorating his visit to St. Stanislaus Church in the Strip District. JPII was fond of (now) Archbishop of Washington, DC Donald Wuerl.

Thread drift over - I do not see Benedict XVI making many overseas visits. God bless Pope Benedict on his visit to Brazil and to New York City.

I woudn’t mind going, but New York is soooooooo expensive… even on a normal day. :ouch:

Back in my non-Catholic secular days I noted that JPII was going to visit Baltimore. Even then, despite not being Catholic, or even particularly religious, I seriously though about going because I lived fairly close. But for whatever reason I didn’t go. I’ve been kicking myself vigorously in the behind ever since. :crying:

The hotels are pretty pricey, but if you stay away from times square( I gag when I say times sq) food and whatever else are comparable to prices when I lived upstate!
🙂

Oh yea, and never pay the suggested price when you go to the Met, give 'em a dollar, it’sd only suggested and they dont tell you that(of course)… same for museum of natural history 😉 There’s a cheap afternoon right there!

I’m there, You can get around New York City and have a blast without spending a fortune…unless you’re with my wife, then it’s more challenging.

Sure you can, just ask any NYer how to spend time in NY and spend very little money.🙂

I live in Texas and I am going to do my BEST to be there!

We haven’t been blessed in a LONG LONG time. I can’t wait 'til he comes!
Hooray!

My plan is to fly in for the day and fly out at night, so no hotel will be needed. JetBlue flies there for $99 one-way. Then train/subway to downtown… with an all-day subway pass…

Under $300 for the whole trip, and I get to sleep in my own bed.

Hmmm… not a bad idea! I think I may consider that…

Great well welcome to any who are coming to NY, I read that it wont be in 2007 probably next year.

Well, better later then never! This will give my new little one enough time to grow so he/she can handle a road trip.

Praying that our parish will charter a bus. That would mean a day trip if we leave the night prior and come home that night. We can sleep on the bus:D if we aren’t to excited that is.:bounce:

Everyone is assuming that there will be a public Mass for a significant number of people. Yet the commitment, thus far, seems more to address the U.N. than the Catholic faithful of the Archdiocese of New York and the United States. Now, likely, this will be an add on, but not necessarily.

I don’t recall, did Pope Paul VI celebrate such a public Mass in NY when he visited the UN?

According to what I have been reading here they are saying that in all probability he will have a large public gathering like John Paul II did the times he was here. His first was in Yankee Stadium and then the next was in Central Park, I doubt very much if Pope Benedict would come all this distance and not do a public mass for all the Catholics here.
