Will the next Pope be Black? What would the effect be on the needs of third-world politics? Would he send a strong message to Catholics worldwide? His Papacy could result in true humanitarian aid being effective dispersed in developing countries.

What color is a soul?

I’ll let those in charge and the Holy Spirit guide.

Oh Snap! His name is Peter! Maybe that prophecy was right after all.

Do you mean more humanitarian aid? The United States already gives quite a bit, you know, as do private groups and individuals. I do not see why have a black pope would mean a thing. Pope Benedict issued Caritas in Veritate where this need was addressed.

I haven’t heard many people mentioning Arinze’s name, and I had thought he might be the first Third World/non-Caucasian pope. I think he’d make a wonderful pontiff, personally. His age might seem a negative, but some people are saying the cardinals are more apt to start putting forward older candidates in the future.

It’s having a Black Pope from a third-world economy. The Vatican has a lot more clout than most people realize. A Black Pope from a needy third-world country may act as a catalyst for profound social change.

If he wins I am getting a shirt that says “My Pope is Black.” 😃

I’m pretty sure we’ve already had multiple black popes, just not in modern day.

There have been African Popes, I believe. And no country nor Church should elect a leader on the basis of skin or gender.

Are you open to a female pope with your statement of how gender should not come into play in the election of a new pope???

We just don’t know whether they were of the phenotype commonly associated with what was once referred to as “black Africa.”

Correct, skin or gender is no reason to elect a leader. Skin is no reason to pass a candidate by, either.

So what did the Holy Spirit say about tonight’s lotto numbers?!

I’m speaking about a Black Pope from a third-world nation. Such can act as a catalyst for social justice worldwide.
We’ve had at least three Popes from Africa already.
  • Pope Gelasius
  • Pope Miltiades
  • Pope Victor

Haven’t you already made up your mind about my answer?
You’re not answering my questions for clarification. I’m happy to clarify my position. And I’m just speculating and have yet to declare who I feel the Holy Spirit will choose.

You are correct on African popes. As for gender, it is ontologically impossible for a female to receive Holy Orders because a sacrament demands the natural resemblance of the spiritual reality, in this case, acting in the person of the Incarnate male Christ.
