These threads make me incredibly sad, Br. David.

I sometimes see women in the pews weeping after recieving the Eucharist, and grown men too, clearly crying as they try to hold in their emotion.

Not only do they make me sad as well but they also frustrate me. CAF bans discussions on something but for some reason they allow this COTT is better than CITH stuff to persist.

Sometimes I wonder what they are thinking.

I am starting to look forward to my forced absence from the internet in July.

I agree, Tim. These threads make me very sad.
I am one fo those women you speak of. I weep frequently during Mass,
and when receiving communion. Just the whole idea of Jesus sharing himself with me & for me is so awe-inspiring, that I really am not paying that much attention to what is going on around me, let alone watching how others receive.
And you know what…, I receive in the hand! (gasp, oh the horror!)

It has been posted, ad nauseam, the the Holy Father did not, and has not called for a return to receiving kneeling & on the tongue. In fact, he has stated that he has no problem with CITH, so this whole discussion is moot anyway.

And where does it say this topic is banned?

So are you claiming that people who receive in a manner that the Church allows, in the hand, do not love Jesus, that they deny the real presence?
Actually it is a known fact that more people doubt the Real Presence since receiving in the hand

From Light of the World-
His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI’s own words-
“I am not opposed in principle to Communion in the hand; I have both administered and received Communion this way myself. The idea behind my current practice of having people kneel and receive Communion on the tongue was to send a signal and to underscore the real presence with an exclamation point.”

How about something that is actually from the Pope rather than some news article where the author puts forward his own opinion of what the Pope is doing.

How about this. In the Book Light of the World where on page 158 when asked about his administering communion on the tongue while the communicant kneels.

He responds in part . . .
I am not opposed in principle to communion in the hand; I have both administered and received communion in this way myself. The idea behind my current practice of having people kneel to receive communion on the tongue was to send a signal and to underscore the real presence with an exclamation point. One very important reason is that there is a greater danger of superficiality precisely in the kinds of mass events we hold at Saint Peter’s, both in the Basilica and in the Square. I have heard of people who, after receiving communion, stick the Host in their wallet to take home as a kind of souvenir.

There, right from the Pope, is the reason for his doing this. Not because he wants everyone to do it.

So please provide a source from the Pope stating what you have claimed or with draw your erroneous claim.

edit: Oneofthewomen beat me to this but I will leave mine as it is a bit longer than her’s 😛

Actually the Latin Community I have attended also say the Pope prefers it this way.

Your quote says it in there anyway- he wishes to underscore the Real Presence.

Just what do you think it is my friend?
I wouldn’t ask if I knew. I am not aware of this depiction of a saint or of the Lady. I also notice the tears so I wonder if it is one of the “weeping” statues.

It’s a picture of a statue of Our Lady of La Salette. I don’t know much about it I just thought it was nice

Looks like “Our Lady of La Salette” during one of the apparitions the seers meet our Lady she is weeping,

Please be advised that Mother Teresa did not say or write the following:…
The thing that makes me saddest is watching people receive Communion in the hand.
I receive communion on the tongue sometimes and in the hand other times.

I’m also an EMHC and on Sunday I gave out communion.

Recently I have noticed the hands of those coming for communion - probably because of conversation like this on CAF.

This Sunday I gave communion to approximately 150 people.

I placed the body of Our Lord into hands racked with arthritis and pain, hands that have washed, fed and clothed babies and children, hands that have cared for the sick and the dying, hand calloused from manual labour in harsh weather, the soft hands of the young, and the wrinkled and veined hands of the old, weak hand and strong hands, hands of sinners and hands of the prayerful and devout.

Among our faculties of reason and speech it is our hands that set us apart from animals. We have opposable thumbs which means we can grip things with great dexterity. This means we can fashion and make objects of beauty, or utility. We can write, paint, play music.

We can also use our hands to soothe a child, make love to a spouse, comfort a sick or dying person.

We can also use our hands to sin, make weapons of war, to steal, rob and kill.

Somehow placing the Body of Christ into human hands in the form of bread makes visible the vulnerability and powerlessness of Christ, but also the trust that He places in us to become what we have received and be Christ in the world.

Perhaps I have been mistaken. When I was at the Latin Mass even the Priest said that it’s a travesty how communion is received now. A member of that community is insistent that the Pope prefers it this way for all people.
I know myself receiving on the tongue brings me in more awe.
Since I now know that the Pope didn’t say all should do this, I can rest easy knowing that it’s not a case of Priests being disobedient to his wishes etc.
I was awake all night worrying that my Spiritual Director was a lax Priest,
But it seems , as I was only Confirmed a year ago, that I still need to learn some things

This is something I haven’t thought about. I receive Our Lord on the tongue but I can really see the beauty in this analogy. Thank you.
